I just bought 50 standard dvds for $15. Are Blu Ray and HD-DVD blank disks expected to fall that low eventually? That is a lot of memory for hardly any cost. 30 cents for 4.5 GB! It seems that if someone could figure out how to install programs to these disks like a hard drive, hard drives would go the way of the 8 track.

I thought you were saying that you would sell a 225 GB hard drive for 15 bucks... I was weeping with joy.

Of course recordable HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs will fall in price eventually. DVD-Rs did, after all. But there's no way that optical discs will ever replace hard drives; the access speed is way too slow, and the storage capacity is rather limited. It doesn't even compare. It's far more likely that flash memory will fall in price enough that it'll replace hard drives.
