not because im crazy or anything but ya starting from last night my left ear only has 10% of its previous hearing ability now, i snap my fingers next to my left ear and i can barely hear it its as if its 10 feet away while my otyher ear is just fine.
Also in my left ear i can really loudly hear my blood flowing and it seems like my left ear is completely submerged underwater.

Could be as simple as wax buildup that has completely covered your ear canal. It happens to me frequently. Sometimes I can wiggle my ear a little to open up the ear, but that's only temporary. Going to the doctor so they can flush it out with water with this big metal syringe is your best bet. Ear drops have limited benefit, as do those little blue bulbs you can use to flush your ear out yourself. I find that it's hard to get enough force to dislodge the wax without one of those metal syringes. (My husband was able to clear out my ear once with a small plastic syringe once. The plunger action gives enough force to the water.)
If it's not that, I have no idea what it is. My mom thought she was going deaf in one ear for months (maybe years) once--then she had her ears cleaned out. She was amazed.

I have to be careful when swimming, too, because water in my ear will almost always move the wax so that I can't hear. It's very frustrating.
Oh, and if you have the doctor clean them out for you, your hearing still won't come back for about an hour. I guess the water rushing causes trauma or something. *shrugs* I'm no doctor--I don't know WHY these things happen, but I have experienced it.

I worked for an internal med doctor for a while and many people needed earwashes. Afterwards, it was amazing how well people could hear. Things were almost too loud. It's very easy to do and takes only a few minutes.

You can probably call around a get an appointment with your primary care doctor/family doctor today. Your hearing is very important and any change should be taken seriously.

Could be sinuses acting up to. Try some decongestant tonight. Your in Canada to, they have stronger stuff on the shelves then here in the States. When I was in Toronto last year, I stocked up on Sudafed to bring back. Works so much better then the stuff here.

I went for an earwash once when this was happening, and they had to stop because it was so incredibly painful. I mean, it felt like an iron spike being pounded into my head (or what I imagine that might feel like, never actually haven't had an iron spike (or any other kind of spike, for that matter) pounded into my head).
Though they were all pretty shocked, since that's apparently not a normal reaction.

Since you can hear the blood flowing, I'm leaning towards sinuses myself. When my sinuses act up I can often hear blood whooshing in my ears. It's annoying. But yes, it could also be ear wax buildup. Go see a doctor. Posts: 1805 | Registered: Jun 1999

Ear wax can suddenly block your ear. I don't really notice a change in hearing until it's completely blocked. Lying on my ear can also bring it on.
I've never had my sinuses block my ears, though. That's interesting.

I think its related to the sinus pressure felt when flying or SCUBA diving.

My problem was sinuses, too. Is the ear popping at all? Feel any pressure? The doctor said there was a massive amount of "fluid buildup" behind my ear which was causing the slight pressure and dizziness (and almost complete loss of hearing). All I needed was some drugs and I was good in a few days.

I couldn't hear anything once because of an ear infection. The triage nurse was shocked because adults don't get ear infections (or so she claimed).

Hi Blayne, just in case you don't read the B&I thread, I can't play tomorrow, my phone line is still down. Seems to be a problem with the wiring somewhere inside the walls of the building; difficult to fix. Maybe the rats have been gnawing at it. Or perhaps the damp got to it, as if the mold weren't bad enough. Ah, the joys of cheap apartments...

Blayne, you posted last week about having some kind of nasty cold, no? I'm thinking that your ear probably got infected, and that you need some medicine.
Now, Blayne, you KNOW that I think you are a dear and all, but really. If you think you need some serious medical help, why in the world are you posting at Hatrack instead of, you know, picking up the phone and calling a doctor.
Sheesh!
And guys, I know you are just trying to be helpful and all, but stop enabling the doctor-avoiders. I think that in the end it does them no favors.

Oh, I thought mine was painful too. I still let them do it, but...yeah, it hurt.
