I need a good forum to answer this server question. I think this may be too techi for Hatrack (not for some members but for the purpose of Hatrack).

I keep getting problems with ping requests timing out. I have replaced hardware (they needed updated anyway). I have checked error logs. I have called for help from the district. I just can't seem to fix the problem.

I think it is how my 2003 server interacts with my network.

I have 2 non-consecutive ip ranges. My question is how BEST should I configure my DHCP server? Right now I have one super scope with the two ranges acting as distinct scopes underneath it. Would it be better if I had no superscope and just had 2 stand-a-lone scopes?

The physical makeup of our school is:

[Router--Office switch--Hall A switch--Library Switch--Hall B switch.] The server is connected directly to our Library switch.

One subnet seems to drop more often then the other one. When I ping the gateway of IP Range "x," everything is fine. When I ping the gateway on IP Range "y," I get a lot of dropped packets. On 3000 pings I can get between 1% to 7% dropped.

Ideas? (Again, I am looking for computer forums to post this on). We are not using private ip addresses. I am not sure how much of a hassle it would be to set that up.

Fahim suggests WebhostingTalk or Lockergnome.

I'll second lockergnome. I was recently having some troubles with smb functionality in GNOME, and they sorted me out in no time.

Edit: Not that the two problems are even marginally related...
