Happily N'Ever After proudly proclaims that it's "From the producers of Shrek!"

...and we all know that the quality of Shrek depended on the producers, right? [Roll Eyes]

The core concept actually isn't too bad. In a land where fairy tales repeat themselves ad infinitum, the Wicked Stepmother from Cinderella suddenly becomes all powerful.

It's awful. Jay Ward's Fractured Fairy Tales had brilliant wit, top notch voice acting, and creative character designs in order to make up for the extremely limited animation.

The original Shrek had (then) top notch CGI animation, an all-star voice cast, a witty script, and a genuine heart to the lead character.

Last year's Hoodwinked at least had a clever script and some playful voice work.

This...has Andy Dick as a purple cat.

It also has Freddie Prinz Jr as "Rick"...perhaps the most unappealing, unlikable, unsympathetic leading man in the entire history of animated features. He's a jerk. Not a jerk with a heart of gold. Not a jerk who gets redeemed. Not a jerk who you love to hate. He's just a jerk. A petty, mean-spirited animated Ken doll.

Sarah Michelle Gellar supposedly becomes a feminist, empowered take on Cinderella. Pull the other one. This version of the maid is a total nitwit, from beginning to end.

Any potentially clever ideas are wasted. There's a gang of three Big Bad Wolves...the one from Little Red Riding Hood, the one from the Three Little Pigs and...uh...the one from...uh...Peter and the Wolf?

But...nothing ever comes of it, or any other idea.

It's especially painful watching Sigourney Weaver, Patrick Warburton, and Wallace Shawn wasted on lines that will never be funny, even with their considerable talents.

Avoid it like it was this year's Doogal.

I stopped reading right there...

So is it current trend now to put Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddy Prinze together in every movie they make? Would have it been easier to accept if the movie had a pothead and a talking dog?

Scrappy Doo has more charm and personality than any of the Happily N'Ever After leads. Yup. That bad. [Grumble]

That's really saying something. One of the classics from the Book of Ratings:
quote:
Scrappy-Doo
Speaking of inhuman. I just want to get this twisted little bastard out of the way so that I can go back to ignoring him. The more astute readers among you may have noticed that I haven't yet gone so far as to give anything an actual "F." That's not out of any kind-heartedness on my part, it's just that every time I got ready to give one out, I would ask myself, "is it really that bad, compared to the verminous, soul-tainting badness of Scrappy-Doo?" And now, at long last, I have my chance. Prepare yourself, oh encephalitic hound. F! Hahahahahaha! It feels good!
