You may have already seen the spots. ConAgra Foods never had a pitchman quite as popular as the quirky, goofy old gentleman who was so darn proud of his "fluffier" popcorn.

So, they've reanimated his corpse as a herky-jerky, dead-eyed, soulless CGI abomination.

*shudder*

The butter chemical in microwave popcorn gives factory workers lung disease, and when lab rats were exposed to it they died in a week.

*dour*
*misses being able to eat microwave popcorn*

In what way were the rats exposed to it? And in what quantity?

They were completely submerged in the butter for 10 minutes, no more no less, and they uniformly died! [Eek!]

Except for a few that adapted and were no longer able to breathe air. Just fake butter.

Maybe they were all exposed to it while watching Alexander.

I actually cannot walk down the microwave popcorn aisle. I have a string gag reflex to the smell of the butter like chemical.

Orville's 'Tender White' isn't too bad, but I have to confess I am a diehard "Jolly Time - Crisp'n'White" man myself.

Microwave Butter Popcorn, especially yellow popcorn SUCKS!

If I want butter, I will melt a couple of small teaspoons of butter and drizzle it over my Jolly Time.

White Popcorn Rules!

Of course, Black Popcorn is pretty good too, but expensive.

You're not even close to being unusual, romanylass. Large numbers of similar complaints have caused many businesses to ban microwaving popcorn in breakrooms.

This thread reminds me of the DJs joking about water intoxication as their contest killed a participant.

Wow, I had no idea! It's good to know I'm not actually a freak, at least in that respect.

I actually love the smell of chemical butter. Not that I'd drive down to a movie theater just to smell it, but I breath just alittle heavier when I walk by the snack counter.

I looked up the ad on Youtube, since I'm unlikely to ever see it on television.

Dear God, what an awful commerical. I kept waiting for a recognizable face from Mad TV or SNL to show up with a punchline.

I haven't seen the ad. But I just ate Orville Redenbacher's popcorn tonight. Popped the right way--on the stove, with oil. Yum. Doesn't need butter (or toxic butter imitations)--just some salt and/or a little seasoning.

I used to love making Jiffy Pop while camping.

Then one year we had a bad reaction between the camp fire and the popcorn...

We don't use it anymore.

I just saw the ad, and frankly it is a good computer generated likeness, but the soul is missing. I think they would have done better to find a look alike actor - even if they have to do voice over and makeup. This thing is creepy.

Oh, come on. Colonel Sanders has been dead for a decade and nobody's complaining about him.

Wendy's was on the brink of bringing Dave Thomas back from the dead, but reconsidered.

I haven't seen this commercial, but I love this idea.

Do they have him hip-hop dancing to an MC hammer song?

He brags about his new MP3 player. In fact, he seems more excited about it than he is about his popcorn!

More proof that CGI Redenbacher is a twisted mockery. [Eek!]

I guess I haven't seen the commercial in question.

Then again, I don't want to. I was extremly upset when they revived John Wayne to do a Bud Light commercial, or Fred Astaire dancing with a vacuum cleaner, so I probably wouldn't react well to this one.

Here's the commercial, in it's hi-res...er..."glory".

It's that little bobbing movement he does at the end...gives me a chill, every time.

The way CGI Zombie Redenbacher shrieks every line...as if it's being torn from his throat. [Angst]
