I love the Oz books. I loved the Broadway musical version of The Wiz. (We shall not speak of the movie.)
I'd heard the recent European revival was really good...and I'll admit, the actress playing Dorothy has a -great- voice.

They really ran it? I was being sarcastic. I know it wasn't great, but Otherworld and Starlost are two of the only SF shows I got to watch as a kid other than Star Trek and the original BSG.

She's not in the stage musical. *grrr* Dang Diana Ross. They changed Dorothy's age, changed Oz, changed almost all of the script...no wonder it flopped.

quote:Back in the late 70s, a woman involved in producing TV specials for one of the networks called Ellison up, laughing so hard she couldn't contain herself. She hung up, took a few minutes to compose herself, then called back to tell the story she meant to tell the first time. One of the other people in the building had popped into her office with what he claimed was the greatest idea of the year, something that would win the November sweeps for them.
"We do 'The Wiz' *white*!"
If you don't get why that's funny, then you're part of the population that Ellison was bemoaning. He told this story to a college audience of hundreds, and no one got it.
I haven't heard that song in years. But when I was an angsty teenager, it was absolutely one of my favorites. I also adored The Wiz (the movie), partly because I was huge fan of both Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.
I still really like the song.
