Isaac Asimov taught it to me! Good guy, that.
Just thought I'd put it out there in case there was anyone else that didn't know this excellent word. I look forward to using it soon and often.

Oh, if this is a "word I like" thread and not a "word I learned" thread I'm going to have to withdraw "démarche" and nominate "slake" instead. I fell in love with "slake" in 1994 (not sure when I learned the word, but I remember the exact moment the romance started).

I recently learned "decriment." It means exactly what you think it should when compared to "increment."

"The pelagic zone is the part of the open sea or ocean comprising the water column, other than that near the coast or the sea floor. In contrast, the demersal zone comprises the water that is near to (and is significantly affected by) the coast or the sea floor."

no, no. I learned the word "vonk" a long time ago. And the actual definition, kept so secret that you, of course, won't be able to find it, is "the absolute best and awesomest family to be from in the entire world and better than you, too." But don't worry, I won't hold anyone to that.

It was intended to be a "word I learned" thread. There are many "work I like" threads out there that I debated posting in, but decided against. But it can be whatever kind of thread you want it to be!
