Didn't see a thread for this yet.

I went to see it tonight with a friend of mine. It wasn't what we expected. There was a lot that was hilarious about it, much of it in the silly style that most parodies of this sort tend to go for.

However, much of it was incredibly awkward. The ending especially, was perhaps the most stupid and horrible ending I have ever seen to a movie period.

SPOILER ALERT
.
.
.

What the hell was that? The suicide bomber thing was sort of amusing at first, and it got a bit more funny as it went on. But as soon as Chris Klein put on the belt and started actually SINGING TO THE FRIGGING CAMERA?! And then Hugh Grant sets off the bomb with the camera? Was that on purpose? Was he just as stupid as Chris Klein? The end made no sense, it was stupid and horrible, and left me with a "Wtf?" taste in my mouth. As far as I'm concerned, it was funny, but the ending killed its chances forever for being labeled as even a decent movie.

End Spoiler.

Hugh Grant didn't set it off (intentionally) with the camera, Chris Klein walked up to the camera and pressed the detonator against it. They included expressions of Hugh Grant surprise, iirc (I saw it a few weeks ago at a special preview screening).

I saw it last night. At first I was alittle put off by the "in your face" parody style, but then I began to love how the movie embraced its lack of subtlety.

The end was alittle disturbing though. I could hardly believe that they would take the joke that far.

Holy crapmoley this movie was bad.

Did anybody enjoy it at all?

This movie sort of went like this:

Everybody in the world is either shallow or fake or both except John Cheney/Dick Morris. He's just encouraging other people to be fake.

And at the end, the "moral" the movie seemed to be teaching, based on the President's speech?

"You should really stop dreaming about acheiving things, and get on about your pathetic life."

So preacheth the successful of Hollywood.

"Oh, and that goes double for the President."

Other morals in this movie:

We have nothing to fear from terrorists who have been exposed to products of American entertainment. They will love us, and will not want to harm us any more.

We do, however, need to fear soldiers who are disgruntled.

I normally love political humor, even that mocks people I like. I particularly love the stuff that mocks everybody (anybody remember the puppet show, DC Follies?).

This was just lame. Incredibly lame.

The problem with it as a parody is that American Idol is so over-the-top already that any exaggeration heads into suicide bomber territory.
