Dr Who is interesting, I wouldnt risk going over my bandwidth limit downloading its seasons just yet but the 10th doctor is funny and dr who is awesome enough of a show for me to ejoy knowing that the Invisible man was the 9th doctor.
next, House something I wasnt originally sure of as being "worth" watching, I liked Scrubs but Im a scifi/fantasy junkie and I wasnt sure if I wanted to get commited to it, however after hearing rumors about his likeness to Sherlock Holmes and upon watching a random episode I found it really really funny and I like funny so Im dloading the first 2 seasons now a little bit at a time and soon viola House.
edit: in all this posting I forgot to post my original question how often to doctors change?

Whenever the actor decides to leave or is asked to leave by the studio.
The thing is, none of the previous Doctors landed a major role after their stint on Dr. Who. The theory is the show is so popular in England that they get too strongly type-cast. Avoiding that was Chris Eccleston's stated reason for only staying one season.

BTW, I read somewhere that the Doctor is supposed (allowed) to have 12 incarnations. I mean he's not just immortal ... he gets 12 lives, somewhat like a cat, I guess. He's on his tenth right now - wonder how soon they'll have to bend that rule?

They bent it for the Master. First time we saw him, he was on his 11th incarnation. Then his 12th. And then he stole someone's body for a 13th.
My personal theory all along has been that the Master is the Doctor. That he went crazy at some point and went back to fight himself. But that'd mean that he'll lose it during his 11th incarnation at the latest.

The Doctor's in his tenth incarnation, so only one to go before anything ruins Lisa's theory (which I rather like, though it would also be kind of a sad ending).
And there are rumours that the Master is coming back next season.
Could be interesting.

much as I've liked parts of the show (Dr. Who) am I the only one who is extremely turned off by: 1) the incredible 40s-esque cheesiness of many of the enemies and the like. I know it's not a hollywood blockbuster, but slow moving straight-kneed androids and floating trashcans with no manipulative arms or whatnot are just too unbelievable for me as credible concerns. 2) the voice of the daliks (sp?) every time any of them speaks I just want to rip my ears off and run away screaming...

It would be less sad if the 14th Master regained his sanity and became the Doctor again. It wouldn't prevent the Master from showing up after that, because of the whole time travel thing.

There was a character called the Valeyard who showed up during a 6th Doctor story; he was out to kill the Doctor, and the Master said that the Valeyard was actually the Doctor himself "somewhere between his 12th and final regeneration" or something like that. Interesting bit that they never really explained or did anything further with...

Oh, and Time Lords have 12 regenerations -- which means that it'll be the 13th Doctor and not the 12th who has to figure out how to pick up some more regenerations

Yeah, I'm sure they'll figure a way around the rules. But just in case, I think David Tennant should keep playing the Doctor for a long, long time.

There were also hints that the Doctor is actually much older than he appears, possibly being the original Time Lord who regenerates continuously, taking new Time Lord names with each set of 13.
This was hinted at by the 7th or 8th doctor, as well as in the special, "The 5 Doctors".
