Does anybody here listen to the radio anymore? I mean all stations pretty much play the same song rotations over and over and over, and I don't like any of the stuff on the radio anymore. Does anybody else here feel the same way, or am I a wierdo?

I listen to the radio regularly, but I have an excellent local public radio station that plays a great mix of quirky new music, that you can't hear anyone else. They stream from that link, and list their playlists if you want to check it out.

I only really listen to the radio when I'm in the car for short bursts, and then it's only to the Mix stations that play 80s/90s/today's music. If I'm in the car for long periods, I play CDs and such (I used to just broadcast my iPod to my radio until my iPod died).

I don't listen to the radio, and haven't in a long time. Instead, I go to my local library which has a very wide selection of CD's and check new ones out all the time. They allow 8 at one time and you check them out for up to four weeks at a time.

I dunno why, but it seems that a lot of genres are having the same problem. They are all just filled with commercial music aimed at getting album sales, rather than actual good music. I mean, look at rap now. It's gone. In the 80s and 90s we had KRS, Rakim, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, Common, Cube, all of them. Now its Lil' Jon and Bow Wow. None of the music today compares to what it was 10 or 20 years ago. Same with rock I think, I mean all you hear on Top 40 stations now is Creed knock-offs whining about ex-girlfriends. I know theres other music out there that is actually good, but it never gets played. There used to be an old radio station where I lived called the Arrow. It played all the classic rock you wanted, like Led Zep, Pink Floyd, the Offspring and the like. Now it got bought out, and all I hear on it now is the Killers. Do people actually like this stuff?

I listen to 105.7 (The Point) around here. They play a lot of alternative music. You can usually hear something good on there.

Well like, they play the good stuff, I mean I don't listen to classic rock so I can't really describe all the artists the station played, but I was using the radio station as an example.

They may not necessarily be classic rock. But they were pretty good at what they did.

I listen to NPR and a sister station that plays classical all day.

YES give me some of that CAMILLE SAINT-SAËNS. Oh and is this some Gabriel Faure? I'm going to pull up to a stop in my fancy car with the tinted windows and the bass thumping real loud, and then I'm going to lower the window in a real slow fashion and say 'sup' to random passing ladies while disturbing the peace with Pachelbel at 108 decibels. Total gangsta.

Ummm

Otherwise than that radio kind of sucks and has been completely nuked by personal playlist portability.

As one of the only teenagers in the country not physically dependent on iTunes, I love the radio.

The Killers are terrific. They only *seem* bad. It's very deceptive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Tom...

But I think he meant that the Offspring are too recent to be considered Classic Rock, and if they are, he feels old. I'd like to second that. They are so totally NOT Classic Rock. I'm decidedly NOT old, and they're way too recent. Let's at least hit the 30 year mark, okay? Their first album came out in 1990. That's not even 20 years yet.

Sheesh.

I only listen to the radio in the car, and mostly have it on the news frequencies.

Sports talk radio here, with a bit of country music mixed in when a moron calls in (read: Leafs/Flyers fans). They provide a lot of humor on the drive home, currently they are kicking unworthies out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They've already done NFL and MLB.

Generally, while in the car, I listen to books on tape or CDs. I use the radio primarily for weather/traffic reports on AM, and Rutgers sports broadcasts.

I love the radio! (In Houston) I listen to 90.1 KPFT, the public access radio that hosts AP News and Democracy Now! as well as numerous music shows featuring blues, bluegrass, jazz, a full Grateful Dead concert every Friday night and a wide range of world music.

Also I listen to 91.7 KTRU, Rice Universities radio station. They have so much different kinds of music that I never would have heard without their help. This station was the first place I heard Ween. For that I am eternally grateful. Favorite shows are the reggae show and the post-punk show.

Lastly, but certainly not leastly, is 90.9 KTSU, the TSU radio station. Their tag line is "Jazz in all it's colors" and that is probably the best description I could think of. So much jazz, so many different colors.

On a related note, does anyone know how to find out what a radio station is given the number and general region (90.9, South Texas (obviously not the 90.9 I mentioned above))? I tried google but got so many hits I wouldn't know where to start.

Also, Clear Channel is the bane of my existence. *forgoes rant welling up inside*
