less then a year ago, its a 1 year warranty, i sorta need to know if A) I can send in my Acer for a replacement of the same amount I paid for it.

Like if i paid 800$ 9 months ago, I want it replaced by something that is worth the same amount.

B) Is it replaceable if its only a bit broken or does it have to unworkably broken like not turning on broken.

That's highly unlikely.

Warranties generally do not cover economic factors like inflation and depreciation. You usually get either an exact replacement or one deemed by the manufacturer to be equivalent.

Have you tried contacting Acer's tech support department? That's probably the most effective approach. Especially since I don't even know what sort of product you're talking about (a computer?).

Best Buy has a "lemon rule": you take a machine in for service three times and they simply give you credit. And they give you the credit you originally paid, so long as it was within their warranty.

My sister's machine had already been in for service twice. Once we discovered this, the machine mysteriously developed an irreparable problem that required maintenance. She went to Best Buy, they told her "go get a new one," and she got a brand new computer, much better than the one she had, with the credit she paid two years ago. She even had enough left over to buy a nice screen and a few games.

If you take it in to service, I warn you about one thing: you data is not safe. No matter how many times you tell them to not erase the hard drive and that you have data that you need on it, nine times out of ten the first thing they do is blank the drive from the recovery CDs.

Also, manufacturers are generally not in a hurry to fix things. Expect to be without a machine for some time.

Finally, does Acer still exist?

yes, www.acer.com I got the laptop brand new from futureshop 9 or so months ago. However it is falling apart, I have taken reasonable good care of it but i hear something loose on the inside, screen has some burnt pixels for some odd reason, the wireless card is extraordinarily weak compared to other Acers of the same type, and it doesnt go to stand by mode sometimes, like itll go into standby mode and then turn itself back on without warning, if i close the lid and put it in my back and turns itself backon while in the bag and overheats I have a problem.

Futureshop I KNOW has the policy of no questions asked if something is broken or if your not satisfied you can bring it back in and get it replaced by any of machine that was worth what you paid for it. Example if you paid 800$ for something and something is wrong you can replace it with something that is worth 800$ or pay the difference for something that is worth more.

Then why don't you just take it back to Futureshop?

If you know this policy, what's the problem? Go get it exchanged!

That's probably a 30 day policy at Future Shop (formerly Canadian company now owned by Best Buy).

Actually, it looks like for a computer that is only a 14 Day policy.

The Acer warranty will probably allow you to send it in to them and they will try to repair it and send it back to you. I think it is unlikely that you will get a new replacement or purchase value back.

Hey, Blayne, sorry you're having a bad experience. I bought my Acer CrapTop from FutureShop as well, and it had gone in for repairs over a dozen times in the first year. It *NEVER* worked properly, and all major components were replaced three or more times each at least. Acer refused to replace it. I even worked my way up to the VPs. They violated their own repair policy by keeping it for a month (it was supposed to be a five day turnaround. Acer was not great to work with.

Unless their policy changed, all you can do is go through their repair. But make sure that if the problem repeats - ie, is not fixed - that you work your way up the food chain. It's the only way to get any amount of results. Document everything. Write letters/email. And document *everything*.

I am now extremely biased against Acer.

No, you can't get a newer, more powerful laptop by having yours "accidentally" break so you can play Supreme Commander with all the detail settings cranked up, Blayne.

Check local laws, not just what the store says. 6 months after buying a tv from Walmart, it died on me. The product warranty only covers parts, not labor, after 3 months. Labor was expensive, so I checked my state's attorney general's website. I found something called implied warranty law, which overides ANY store return policy or warranty. Basically no matter what the store or warranty says, if a product dies within an unreasonable amount of time, the STORE not the manufacturer, MUST replace it. I printed this information out and shoved in the manager's face and he finally agreed to just give me store credit.

no, it was completely uncalled for, I paid 700$ for something that isnt even expected to not fall apart after a year, I got it for school work, games I play on my DESKTOP my desktop is what I use for gaming, 800$ would not get me a freaking computer that would play SupCdr nor would it play at maxed settings, I am not "accidentily" breaking my laptop you newb, my laptop is already just through use is falling apart to no negligence on my part. Your post was stupid, and completely uncalled for. You are wrong, and you cant seem to stop finding ways to insult me.

*whisper* I did suggest that you not get the laptop at that time, IIRC. [Smile]

Seriously, though, back up your data and contact Acer. The sooner the better, because they'll drop you like a hot potato as soon as the warranty expires.

Actually I'm fairly certain I got a different laptop then the one I linked at the time. I went to future shop and got the one that offered the most for the amount I was able to afford but yes backing up will be a good idea.
