Can anyone suggest a good band? I want rock and roll. But I want subdued, poppy, catchy rock and roll. Not metal. Not hardcore. Not punk. Just plain catchy pop rock. Just something that is catchy and soothing.
Something that's slower but not too slow. Something that'll get my fingers tapping, my feet tapping, my head bobbing, and my body calmed. I don't even mind acoustic guitar.
Don't suggest U2. Because I won't listen to U2.

I have never gotten into U2's music. I can't really explain it. I just don't like it. Subsuquently, I tend to dislike Coldplay and other similar bands.

Snow Patrol has some songs that are good - some are pretty far out if you actually pay attention to the lyrics (just a 'warning'). The Fray sounds the same as them for the most part. I don't know if that's the sound you're looking for though?
That's the type sound I got out of your description. I'm off to the kitchen - but let me know if that's the right track and I can try to think up something else in a bit.

They are my favorite band. I used to see them all the time at a local place near my house, and I was lucky enough to have them play at the student center at my school about a month and a half ago. The new CD is great!

I picked up an album a few months ago that I keep coming back to every time I'm in that type of mood. It's called Set Yourself on Fire by Stars. Their Myspace page just has free streaming tracks from their new album, which I don't like as much. But I found some of their videos from Set Yourself on Fire on Youtube if you want to hear what they sound like (although I can't say much for the sound quality in this format).

Speed, I think you found what something very close to what I was looking for. The arrangements are stunning. Subdued but still some form of rock and roll. Quiet but intense. You can hear the colors in the music. Great stuff. I think I'll download the album Set Yourself on Fire off iTunes tomorrow.

I've been liking some of the stuff I've heard by They Might Be Giants also. I need some lighter music to play in between the harder hitting stuff. And I think I found it. Thanks guys!

Feist (female vocals, in case you have a preference.) Jump (formerly Jump Little Children, on their pretty solid album "Magazine." Cathedrals is one of the most beautifully poetic songs ever about a very specific feeling.) Maybe Morrissey or the Smiths? Muse Kings of Convenience (noveau Simon and Garfunkel-y.) Goldspot Rilo Kiley (mostly female vocals.) I like two songs by the Old 97's. Perhaps not much of a recommendation. Roman Candle Arcade Fire (some female vocals.) Shiny Toy Guns (male and female vocals.) Tegan and Sara (girls girls girls, all the way girls.) Travis is pretty reliable. Franz Ferdinand. Get Up Kids.

Ace of Base is very catchy. "All that she wants is another baby, she's gone tomorrow for all that she wants is another baby, he-e-ey..."
They always get my kids dancing. So do the Beatles, of course. I adore the Beatles. Wanna talk about catchy, "Obla-dee, obla-dah, life goes on, la! La-la-la-la-life goes on..."
(Of course my first thought upon reading the thread title was the hideously viral "Dragostea Din Tei", but it doesn't seem like what you're looking for at all. Plus it will TAKE OVER YOUR BRAIN. )
