My kids have got really into Signing Time, a PBS kids show that teaches sign language. Anybody else ever see this?

What about general experience with kids and sign language? In a lot of ways it's been great to learn it with them, but sometimes--well, let's just say when I wake up at night with my daughter silently--but urgently!--signing "potty" beside the bed, I have to wonder how long she's been standing there.

Anybody else have experience with teaching regularly-abled children to sign? Advice for how to move from the show to really learning it?

Maybe your child could find a playmate who is deaf. The people I've known who are fluent in ASL had either family members or close friends who are deaf.

Another idea: there are some kids books that teach a few basic ASL words, ie animal names or whatever. Maybe check out a few of those type of books?

I was about to make a post about this, but I used the search function and realized I already did.

If you've got young kids, at least give the show a try. Your kids just might dig it.

Here's a list of stations.

I love Signing Time! I was going to get the DVDs for Ems for her birthday, but Jeff lost his job so that idea went right out the window. Maybe for Christmas...
