Hey, guys! A coworker of mine just told me a story today about how he was interviewed for a man-on-the-street segment for The Orlando Jones Show in 2003. He made it on the air, but I think that show had only about five episodes before it was cancelled.

My question is, if I wanted to track down video of that show for the sake of practical jokery, where in the world would I start? YouTube only has two clips, neither of which includes my friend. Is there some sort of legitimate way to research old, cancelled TV shows? Or to order videos of weird stuff from the network that produced them?

I'd guess you want the studio that filmed/produced them, not the network that showed 'em.

I vaguely recall the show, I think.

Orlando Jones had his own show?

Did it do any better than Wayne Brady's?

The former had fewer than 6 episodes filmed (and not all were aired). The latter had three seasons.

You do the math.

There's a clip on YouTube from Orlando Jones. If there's one, there should be others.

(Though maybe on other video outlets-- I didn't find any others on YouTube, but I didn't look very hard.)

Yes, riv. I wasn't looking very hard, or reading very thoroughly. Thank you for making that clear. I hope pointlessly highlighting other people's mistakes never becomes tiresome for you, it is such a valuable public service.

Seriously, though, you could try other online video outlets other than YouTube. Google Video, Yahoo--there are lots of them.

That was certainly not my intent, and I am sorry you took my post that way. I rather thought you knew me better than to assume I was being deliberately hurtful.

I will do my best not to respond to any post from you henceforth.

And just for the record, I checked several other online video sites last night, when Puppy first posted. Unfortunately, since there was so little of the show ever aired, I wasn't able to find anything. But it's quite possible someone else's magic touch (and more alert mind, as mine is fuzzy from a night of no sleep and the after-effects of a cold) will do better.

My post was useless and unhelpful, but it came from a place of at least trying, casually, to help. Your post pointed out that mine was useless and unhelpful. It seemed like point-scoring, and even if it wasn't, it wasn't terribly nice.

So, yeah. I'm stupid. I get it. I got it loud and clear when you (and some others) had a high old time making fun of typos in my landmark, when I was really struggling to share some deeply personal stuff. And ended up wishing I hadn't afterward.

I don't think people do it to be malicious, but it might be good to take a moment and ask yourself why you do it.

The last time you mentioned this, it did not jibe with my memory, and I meant to go back and check. Because it is quite possible that I misremember, and even more possible that I was unclear. And if it IS an accurate representation of my behavior, I would like to see exactly what I did so I can apologize. Either the thread is gone or I am looking for the wrong thing. In any case, I am sorry that I made you feel that way, regardless of exactly how that happened.

I was not trying to score points. I am stunned that you would think this. I was also trying to be helpful, although quite clearly my method backfired fairly spectacularly. Would it have been better to have just left it for Puppy to come back and point that out?

When people have quoted back bits of a post that I had missed -- and it happens not infrequently, especially if I'm posting when tired -- I rarely take it personally. I don't think I have ever taken it to mean that someone thought I was stupid. Just that I missed something.

I am deeply saddened that you are so sure that I have malicious intent. Since I don't know how to fix that, I will, as I said, refrain from engaging you.

I certainly have no desire to cause you pain.

Did anyone else read this as an obscure lost episode of Lost?

*stomps off in frustration*

I'm sure you DON'T have malicious intent. I'm sure it is unconscious, and careless. But helpful? You were helping me by pointing out that my bungled attempt at being helpful was completely unneccesary.

I mistyped "braided" as "braised" and I'm sure it was quite ho-ho funny. Just not to me.

And, I'm a bit off today. My cat broke the pitcher on my blender, scattering glass all over and meaning we have another unexpected expense, plus I spent the morning going through records to discover that we spent over $10,000 on health Care last year, and we're reasonably healthy. At least we're breaking nearly even on taxes.

Anyway, I broke my self-imposed exile from forums, while in the middle of something else. I wanted to be helpful, but I was distracted.

And it turns out that I really didn't have anything of value to offer. So the effort was wasted, even though I was making a conscious effort to be positive, and helpful. The fact that I thought we had been generally friendly in the past only made it sting more, and posting my annoyance only made you angry. I didn't intend that, either.

I'm sorry for overreacting. I had forgotten to make allowances for posting style, and I'm having a bad day.

ETA: Sorry for derailing and all.

Also, it occurred to me that possibly his parents might have taped it. Depending on how game they are (and whether you could find them to ask about it) that might be your best bet. Lots of people's folks would let you have a tape and keep mum about it, as long as it was all in fun.

The Wayne Brady Show had THREE seasons? Seriously?

It must have gotten a lot better after the first three episodes, because from what I saw at the beginning, it certainly wasn't worth renewal.

Your post didn't make me angry, Olivet.

It made me very sad.

And while you may not believe that I was trying to be helpful (by redirecting, as I would want to be redirected), that was my intent. I was also in a hurry, and have not had the best day either.

Truce?

I knew it had gone to a second season, but I was kind of surprised myself! But IMDB seems pretty definite.

Absolutely!

(I totally get that you were not being malicious. I reacted emotionally to what felt like a really public embarrassment, and knowing with my head that you are not the sort of person to be casually mean didn't take the sting out of it-- as it might have if I'd been here more lately. My emotions are no one's fault but my own.)

It's intentions that count, I believe, and I know yours were never, ever malicious. I sent you an email apology, too, but my server is choking, for some reason.

I'm waiting on being home tonight to write you an email. I figure I should get SOME work done my first day back from Passover vacation!

If it's any consolation, I didn't even know he had a TV show. The only reason I know about him was his frequent appearances on Whose Line Is It Anyway? and a few guest spots on The Dave Chapelle Show.

I think he should try to get into the movie business. As in comedy. Because I really think he's good at it.

I think he's AWESOME at improv. I'm not so convinced he'd do well on a scripted movie, but I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Well, Orlando Jones did better than Chevy Chase. That's got to count for something, right?

Thanks for your attempts, everybody! Maybe if I do more research on IMDB, I can get some ideas about companies to contact ...

Wayne Brady's show must have picked up from those first few episodes, if two Emmy wins and another nomination are anything to judge by. [Wink]
