Golly, pluto. This sure seems like a great day for fishing, or fighting the great satan!

What's that pluto?

Ha ha, silly me, of course every day is a great day for fighting the great satan.

You know, I knew when I wrote "America" that somebody would make a comment about how it included Brazil, Canada, et al.

I just didn't expect it to happen in 50% of the responses. [Wink]

I thought this was hilarious.

Technically, I think if they thought about the reasons they hate America, they would probably really, really hate Brazil.

Except for the fact that Brazil's never really done all that much to try to stop their nastiness.

This thread and every post in it is bad.

All right, pony up. What are you talking about? Because when I think of the first things that pop into my head about why people might hate America, Brazil is either immune or not as bad as America.

I apologize, mph. I didn't realize there were more replies in this thread.

Looking on my post, the final sentance wasn't as clear as I'd intended it to be. The use of the pronoun "their" was vague, in that it could have refered to Brazil (I actually meant the nastiness of the Islamic Militants). And the whole last two sentances weren't really clear, in terms of the jab I was trying to take at Militant Islam.

Here's how I could have said what I was trying to say, perhaps more clearly:

"You know, if the real reasons they hated America were that we were a bunch of non-islamic, immoral people who let our women show their faces and who practice Christianity, then they'd probably hate Brazil just as badly as they hate us.

"But when it comes right down to it, Brazil's never interfered with their agenda anywhere in the world, and so they've never done anything to Brazil. To me, this suggests that their hatred is less about what we believe and who we are, and more about how we stand in their way."

Hope that's clearer.

(Can you see why I never make short posts? Even in five sentances I can't make my point clear. [Wink] )

Heh.

In many ways, what we believe and who we are is why we're standing in their way. (Unfortunately, not to the extent that I'd like).

Your statement is impossible to evaluate presently, though. There's just no way to know, until and unless fanatical Islam achieves ascendancy in the world and has the time to care about Brazilians.

But then again, you could examine how fanatic Muslims already treat people who aren't doing anything to stand in their way...i.e., y'know, murdering them in cold blood.
