Why would one feel compelled to do that? Would not flexible cold packs be much more comfortable on the feet while still effective on the ankles?

I can never keep the blasted things on where they're supposed to be. Plus I don't have any, so yeah...

In high school biology class we had one lab that involved one member of each group sticking their hands in a large bucket of ice water for five minutes and then breaking a bunch of toothpicks. This was repeated probably 5-10 times. I know the reason we used ice water rather than just ice is because it does a better job of staying in full contact with your whole hand, thus doing a better job of lowering the temperature.

Yeah, that's another reason I'm using it too.

Well, actually, alcon, you could tape it in such a way that the tape didn't have to touch your hair or skin.

Exactly. Like an anklet made of frozen peas. Or tape them to a thin pair of pants or long socks worn over the ankle.

Just be careful with that ice water. My dad gave me a minor case of frostbite once doing that.

Yes, that's why I wouldn't do it. That and I have poor circulation in my extremities to begin with.

You two are both forgetting the natural aversion that man hair has to the mere proximity of an adhesive. My brother is the hariest man I know and trying to place duct tape anywhere near him is like asking somebody who fears sharks to watch Jaws and tell them its OK as its happening on a movie set to somebody else.

Hmm... I dunno if I could get it secure enough using a sock with out pretty much cutting off my circulation. Taping also makes it harder to ice properly. You're supposed to do it in intervals of 15 to 20 on and 15 to 20 off. Wrecks havoc on the tape that does.

I got a small blister-like thing on the bottom of my big toe once, from the toe being very cold and wet (I was shoveling snow in inappropriate boots). It stayed there for years, although it's gone now.

Wet boots + feet for long periods of time = very interestingly shaped blisters.
You know how your skin gets all wrinkly when wet? Put that together with walking on a trail all day, and you come home to some interestingly shaped blisters. Happily they were never all that painful, just looked funny.
