Those of you who remember my earlier posts, will know that I have been dealing with some issues. (but then again, dont we all...)
One of the effects of my condition is my being a virtual shut-in. But lately there has been some improvement on this front, so I thought I'd share this with you. This should be a nice change from having to read about my troubles and ravings [Big Grin]

I've been spending more time with friends. We get together once every two weeks to play poker. This has become all the rage since the latest Bond movie. We almost never play for money, though some of the participants complain that without any stakes, the players are likely to play less seriously. Since I just enjoy playing the game, I really don't care whether we play for money or not. I didn't have any previous experience with the game, and so do not know anything about the odds on certain combo's, which allows me to play without prejudice. Combined with an reasonably good pokerface and a whole lot of luck, I've found a new way to enjoy myself in company.

On June 30th my father and myself went to a music festival. We were lucky, since it happened to be the one day of that week that it rain. Apparently the traffic conditions were so bad outside the venue that some people had to sit in traffic for over four hours, missing five of the twelve bands that were scheduled to play that day.
We did arrive nearly on time, just missing the opening chords of the first band, Tesla, but they weren't on my list so I wasn't put off by that at all. The first show we caught was INXS, and their new singer wasn't bad at all. I might have to check out their new studio album.
Following that we saw parts of performances by Thin Lizzy, Riders on the Storm, Steve Vai and the Scorpions.
Then it was time to have a meal, and fortunately the range of foodstuffs served on festivals has evolved beyond fries and burgers. We dined on rice with pieces of pork served with Stroganoff sauce. It was tasteful and the portions were adequate to say the least - I actually had some trouble clearing the last spoonfuls from the plate.
Having stuffed our bellies we went into the tent, where the roadies were still setting up for the next performance. These preparations took a bit longer than expected, so after about ten minutes people got impatient and went outside to the main stage, where Toto was playing. We decided to stay in however, and were rewarded for this by the best performance of the day. On stage stood the Australian Pink Floyd Show, and they stunned the audience with unabridged, very tight renditions of all the favorites. All the intro's one knows from the albums were there (on tape, but hey...), and they had some amazing background singers, who actually got to perform the leading role at one time, screaming their little hearts out. The feedback of the audience was great and the band were fueled by this, making it seem like every song was better than the last one.
The headliner of the festival - and my main reason for attending - was Aerosmith. One of my favourite bands and since they hadn't been over here for nine years or so, I reasoned that I should really catch their show this time. One never knows how long it takes before they'll visit these regions again. I'm sure I won't have to expound on the details of their performance. They played a well balanced set of songs (oldies included) and seemed to be enjoying themselves. At one time Joe Perry was even getting sounds out of his guitar by way of using his shirt... it was a fine conclusion of the day.

At the end of August I will be attending a performance by Silverchair. This being one of my favourite bands, I'm looking forward to it. Although not without trepidation.

Greetings from Holland,
K.

I am glad you had fun. As hard as it can be, getting out in public is worth it (most of the time). [Smile]
