Seriously, have we come to this? Have we sunk so low as parents that this is what we need to get our kids motivated to do basic edifying things? Have we fallen so far as an audience that this can continuously occupy the charts?

It's a video of a rap song - the title of which made me hopeful. It's called "Read a book."
The song is parent-esque suggestions like: read a book, drink lots of water, brush your teeth, etc. The catch is that they're immersed in profanity. Not "read a book" but "read a ****** ******* book," etc.

hmmm...I didn't see that video as parental suggestions or geared towards kids at all, I saw the video AND the suggestions as geared towards adults/young adults. basically the normal rap fans. I mean, one of the suggestions was "raise your kids".
And if it gets an adult to read a book who might not have otherwise, then good. I liked the caveat of "not the sports page, not a magazine".
I'd hope children aren't listening to that song.

Starting off your song with something along the lines of, "All my songs need a hook" seems to indicate he is just trying to score a song that will cling to the charts.
The song could have used a verse saying, "Clean up yo language, or sound real stupid, clean up yo language...etc"

IIRC the song starts off with him saying, "usually my songs have hooks, but **** that", and then he gets into the song.
