But not really enough. The searchengine still reads "deleted" threads. That's how those "deleted" threads show up in results: the files are still on the disc memory, they're just blocked from being transmitted to forum users.
Spammers are still getting credit for links, which increases their scores, which makes it more likely that their sites will show up higher on the list of hits, which gives spammers incentive to keep spamming.

Infopop is gonna hafta rework their forum program so that it has a safe&easy deletion option that actually deletes files from the disc memeory.

aspectre,
That's not how spiders work. They don't access pages search functions (I mean, what would they do, put in every combination of letters?), but rather spider through the site picking up pages. So, if the thread is locked, the spammers would still get results, but if it were deleted and not accessible except through the search, they wouldn't.

I really need to send another letter to my elected representatives encouraging the "Internet Punch in the Face" bill, wherein a large, spring-loaded boxing glove would be installed on every monitor, and if you spam anyone, it automatically punches you in the face.

You know, if you report the post the nice thing to do is to mention that. That way you can keep PJ from getting a dozen emails from people who reported it not thinking it had been done.

Just sayin'.

Until the spammers take control of it. I can just see it now. "Buy v1aGRra. Or else we'll punch you in the face."

I can already imagine it...

Microsoft Critical Update: this update resolves issues with the Punch In The Face driver. Several users have reported intermittent, unwarranted activation of the driver, particularly when the system is recovering from a hibernation.

I figured, all of us being good Hatrack samaritans, that if one of us saw spam we'd report it, thus making that kind of notification unnecessary, but I see your point.

Next time I'll keep you better informed.
