If I recall correctly, several months ago on Hatrack, someone posted a link to an art gallery containing some escheresque paintings, involving playing tricks on the eye.

For example, one painting was somewhat like standing 2/3 up the walls of the grand canyon, and gazing down the crevice, with rocky walls on both sides converging in the distance. Off in the distance, one sees what appears to be a waterfall falling down and then flowing toward the observer, but once the "water" gets close enough, one notices it's actually a group of people wearing bluish-whitish-grayish garments (including hoods) walking towards the observer.

In another, what appears to be a puddle or a lake on the left is revealed, on the right, to be a top down perspective of people holding of cardboard squares painted to look like part of a puddle or a lake.

That's really all I remember, specifically. I remember the gallery having something around 20 different pictures in it, and I remember the colors being soft, as if done using pastels.

Can anyone help? My google-fu is weak, and Hatrack's search function seemed to turn up nothing.

Thanks in advance.

Also, if you find it, I'll do a math problem for you ;-)

Very Dali-esque. Please don't Mayfly-delete the thread.

There is also Vladimir Kush. He's got a similar style, but Rob Gonsalves is the specific artist Mathematician was thinking of. (After checking Dead_Horse's link)

I did a search on Hatrack for "artist" to find this thread. It was page 4 of the search results. I hadn't realized before that you could get multiple pages.

The Original Thread

Nope. No mayflies here...just butterflies. No deleting.

I'll take a rain check on the math problem.

Thanks for bringing this up.

EXACTLY! Wow, that was fast. Rain check noted.

ClaudiaTherese, how do I de-Mayfly something? Do I just alter the subject heading? If so....how do I alter the subject heading?

:EDIT: nevermind, I'm not as technilogically useless as I had previously guessed.

I googled

trick eye escheresque gallery

and that was the 3rd or 4th entry.

However, that was my 4th try of various combinations of some of the words in your description. It did take me a while.

Very worth looking for, though.
