Okay once I am at school (where I know I can use remote desktop connection what mental checklist of things do I need to make sure of to be able to access my desktop from my laptop at school, my desktop has Vista.

So far: password and ip check.

Username... I think check


Anything else? and Now I go beddy by.

Does the laptop have Vista? If not, I don't think it's possible.

You need the latest version of the Remote Desktop app (on your school machine); you need to enable Remote Desktop on your Vista machine; you need to have the appropriate ports open on your firewall (and know your home IP); and you need to have an administrative account on your home machine.

If your school is even REMOTELY competent, by the way, they will have that traffic disabled.
