So, we know who will play Tia.

They're right about Key's book being quite a bit darker than the film. I'm hoping they keep touches like Tia being mute, Tony's telekinetic powers being much more subtle, and O'Day being a priest with a good punching arm. [Wink]

Amen. The book was infinitely better than the movie.

Maybe the new film will mean Key's books will finally come back into print. Other than The Forgotten Door, many of them are difficult to find.

I liked the first movie. The remake they did sucked ever so much. But I would love to see a darker version.

The original sucked, but I love it anyway. I even love its many flaws.

Gosh, I LOVE Alexander Key. The Magic Meadow is one of my favorite.

Yeah!

That's why I'm hoping the film gets made. It may add incentive to get his work in print again.

The Rock?

Okay, since they are totally revamping it and changing it around, I don't have a problem with making yet another iteration of this movie. I was afraid it was going to be ANOTHER version of the same movie. I liked the original as a child, but seeing a darker version should be very interesting. Who'll play her brother? I never read the book, she does have a brother right?

Until I know who he's playing, I have no opinion on the Rock's presence in this movie. (Though reading the full article at MTV's movie blog, it seems he'll be playing O'Day.)

Yeah, Tia has a brother, Tony. Tony's powers focus more on a form of telekinetic manipulation, which he can only truly focus with the help of music. Tony also has the power to receive visions of sorts.

Tia has telepathy, empathy with animals, and the ability to undo any lock "if it's right".

As of yet, I can find no info on who's playing Tony. Probably hasn't been cast yet.

I quite enjoyed the book. ASR is great - she'll do a good job.

I just rewatched the Witch Mountain movies a few months ago. They were better when I was a kid. I found them pretty corny as an adult, although I still enjoyed aspects of them. I didn't even know there was a book but I can definitely say that a little darkening of the show would go a long way to improving some of the cheesiness. Actually, it would probably help of Disney didn't do the show. [Smile]

Disney does have more mature oriented studios...Touchstone, Hollywood Pictures, etc. You may have enjoyed a "dark" and been unaware it was a Disney flick. [Smile]

Wait, so... there was a BOOK!???!

When I was a kid I LOVED the orginal Disney version of the movie. Then when I was a teenager they made a new "made for TV" version, and it stunk!

I am SO going to have to find this book...

The book (like much of Key's work) seems to be currently out of print. I'd suggest checking libraries and online used book retailers.
