The upcoming actor/writer/director strike has Hollywood fast-tracking films before the summer deadline. The following is a list of films that apparently are being given priority. Includes some interesting stuff:

Of course, there's no way all or even most of these will be done by next June...

Why are they remaking Escape from Witch Mountain? WHY?!?

Another Day the Earth Stood Still? Meatballs? 20,000 Leagues? The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3? Creature from the Black Lagoon? Porky's?!? CLASH OF THE TITANS?!? And Guy Richie is remaking The Dirty Dozen?!?

Another Big Momma, Punisher, and The Birdcage?

I hate Hollywood.

Why is Atlas Shrugged listed twice?

Wow... Fox and WB are making sooo many movies that I am going to want to see.
To name a few:
FANTASTIC VOYAGE - Dir: Roland Emmerich
GULLIVERS TRAVELS - Dir: None attached
MAGNETO - Dir: David Goyer
DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL - Dir: Scott Derrikson

Did anyone else notice that like half the movies are
a) remakes
b) based on shows
c) based on video games
d) based on books

The guy from Limp Bizkit? Huh. It's not even his first. I guess he's not the idiot he always came across as to me.

I love me a good Robin Hood remake. Not sure how I feel about the sheriff as the good guy, but I'll give it a chance.

Because Disney would rather remake another old title from their vast live action film vault, obviously.

At this rate, we'll be seeing a remake of The Gnome Mobile by 2010!

I am not so negative. I always go in assuming that the remakes will live up to the original, and occasionally I am not disappointed. On those occasions I glow, because it often means that more people will be exposed to the original.

how long is the strike expected to last?

What exactly are they upset about...it is not like actors are underpaid.

It might be kind of interesting if it stretched out for a while and people started watching independent films with unknown actors not yet affiliated with the union.

Arguably, I have more sympathy for the writers, as in:
quote:
> Are you receiving any of the revenue from sales of B5 on iTunes? Is WB

> or just rip the episodes from my DVD's (Legal issues aside).

Not a gripe, just an answer...as writer, creator and EP I have never
received anything from the DVD sales, Itunes, AOL, bittorrent,
soundtracks or any other form of video distribution on B5.

This is one of the reasons why there's almost certainly going to be a
writer's strike this year.

link
or more general details at this

If the deal really is that crummy for writers, I can certainly sympathize.

Um.

Isn't it supposed to be Escape to Witch Mountain? What, they finally got there and now they have to get away again? Or is this actually a remake of Return from Witch Mountain?

I loved the original as a kid. I don't see why they need to remake it a third time (yeah, they already remade it in the 90's and it was awful), or remake a sequel that was pretty bad to begin with. These things rarely get better with age.

Escape From Witch Mountain makes it sound all sinister, maybe they are totally changing the plot around.

A couple of those look interesting, like Voltron, GI Joe, Thor. And I don't see how they will finish The Silver Chair before even finishing Dawn Treader, is Caspian even done? That's insanely ambitious. That's like six years worth of movies.

I have to wonder if this will actually give The Hobbit a bit of a bump. I don't think anyone involed with Jackson is part of the strike, they work out of New Zealand, but with US funding. If this stops him from making, or accelerates his making, of Lovely Bones, that'd free him up for something else. Plus New Line will lose the rights to make The Hobbit next year (though I thought it was this year). Could be good news afterall.

I rescind my positive outlook on The Day the Earth Stood Still...

KEANU REEVES IS SLATED TO PLAY KLAATU!!!!!!

NOOOO!!!! (Sorry for all the caps, but I found it necessary)

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and it brings me to tears to think that it will star that horrible actor. They will turn a classic film into a poorly acted sci-fi blockbuster.

Principal filming of Caspian wrapped up recently. Post-production has begun. Dawn Treader is scheduled to begin filming in January.

I suppose since Eustace, Aslan, and Caspian are the only major characters in common between the two stories they -might- be able to pull it off...but it's iffy at best.

On the other hand, if you want an actor to play an extraterrestrial being who only looks human... [Wink]

Looking at the list, I see lots of errors and outdated information. Chris (Lilo & Stitch) Sanders was rather explicitly fired from Anerican Dog some time ago...and the project was retitled Bolt. Makes me wonder what else is based on old information.

That's true. "Let's see, we have to find an actor that's extremely stoic, not very deep, very monotone and devoid of emotion... Hey, I know!"

Surprised they didn't cast him as Gort.

I'm interested in Life of Pi and the A Team. Assuming it's with different actors. I wonder if Owen Wilson will be in form to play Faceman.

I can't picture the A-Team without George Peppard or Mr. T. It just can't be, no matter how hard they try.

And Owen Wilson's got some serious issues these days...
