For more than a year now, the formerly gag-centric online comic Shortpacked has been experimenting with dramatic elements. One of the earliest elements introduced were hints that shy, reclusive Amber had been emotionally abused by her estranged father.

Later hints seemed to confirm this implication, along with a suggestions of darker things.

Today, we find out the reason Amber's dad is estranged is...he made her a target of the Korean Mafia?!? [Confused]

I think we've bypassed "drama" for "Sillyville", but that's just me. [Razz]

Dude. It's David Willis. He introduced drama into his college roommates comic strip by making the main character's ex-girlfriend an agent for a secret gov't organization that combats aliens with their martian-induced superpowers.

Using the Korean Mafia as the "switch" after using the "bait" of possible parental abuse in a character's background is more silly "weird" than silly "ha-ha".

He introduced drama in this strip by the somewhat serious implication of parental abuse, so I was prepared for something a bit less...Korean Mafia-related. [Smile]

Let this be a lesson to all of us: Never pull the drama tag.
