So we have a radio station for my college here called "CSKY" and as it turns out I can become a DJ, so far I'm thinking of making a show loosely on the format of the Colbert Report (I'ld have to watch the Daily Show first to make a comparison) and focus on gaming news, updates, reviews, expos exclusives etc. And play music at various intervals and reserve about 5 minutes for Eve-Online related news.
I'm still trying to come up with a name, I'm thinking "The Bradley Factor" so far, closely followed by "The Blayne Bradley Show", but I am also equally considering a non self-aggreandizing name so that if successful and when I graduate others can take over and not have to answer the awkward question of "why isn't your name Blayne?"

"Gamerz" -->suspection of copyright infringment
"Gaming Utopia" --> suspect people will paraody it...... in a not so nice way.

As you can see I am fairly excited
What I really need though is to get a larger collection of music for then, I have some techno and gaming related music (Eve-Parodies by Cuzron Dax, Final Fantasy music, Kingdom Hearts music, sci-fi stuff)
But I suspect I'll need more then my current 3 GB of music, suggestions for game related music?
Current Plane of Attack!
For a 1 and a Half Hour show I have the following plain.
1 min intro giving a quick summary of the days topics. Following possibly in honor of the most awesome man alive a metaphor and finishing with "This! ... is the [insertname of show]!"
Followed by my custom theme song which I am currently in the process of mixing.
I'll start off the show with some news, PC, Apple, Linux related and extrapolate on it if possible I shall try to make it witty. :/
Followed by music for a certain amount of time, I'll play my own personal track for about half of it and then go by request for the remainder.
Then, if there was some really interesting news I'll continue it but I'll go into "Game of the Week" installment, where I will be reviewing a random game made in the last 20 years, I think I'll start with Pong.
The intervals of how much music I play I think will mostly depend on how much content I have but a good rule of thumb I have been told is 50:50.
I think I'll even have my own version of "The Word" which I think Ill refer to it as "which brings us to todays T1p" which will be either a IT related or gaming related tip or walkthrough depending on context of the show thus far.
Also I think I'll have an installment for helping the average student with computer related problems and try to fix it for them over the show like in G4Tech's tv's i think Lab with leo? Anyways!
At some point during the show I'll follow through with an installment dedicated to Eve-Online and MMORPG's in general with the healthy disclaimer about how I am not responsible if I get anyone addicted to any of these games and cannot be held accountable for your fun or addiction unless you send me food....
The Eve-Online portion will probably be me metagaming with my account and doing commentary or just going over Eve news, updates, and going over the game in general, reading from the EON eve subscription magazine.
And once per show I'll interview some random person outside. Could be anyone, could even be YOU!11!!!
I'll see if I can make my portion of the radio show accessible from the net.

I guess I have one piece of advice. It seems that your show is going to be somewhat content-rich, so trying to do that all with a Colbert-type character may be a bit much. Just be yourself or, if yourself isn't quite doing it for you, choose a persona that's not as over the top as Colbert. His schtick is satire, not news.

No offense, bro, but I'd stay away from trying to emulate Colbert; he does what he does very well, has a team of writers behind him and focuses exclusively on execution, which is not your strong suit. Don't feel bad, though: I'd say the same thing to almost anyone looking at doing a college radio station.
Avoid random caller interviews - they are a great way to get in a lot of trouble.
EVE News: okay. Commentary while playing your EVE account: don't do it. Also, make sure that you put this spot last, because the odds of anyone caring are pretty small, and you wouldn't want other gaming listeners to tune out of your station due to lack of interest until the show's otherwise over.
Your Game of the Week installment should be about a new game, not a random old one.

I'm not going to plagirize colbert or try to mimic his every mannerism, but more of loosely model the format/shedualing of the show. It is not my intention to mimic his satire of news. And yes the Eve-Online installment would be last.

Pong has got to be way over 20 years. It was old when I was a kid and I am over 20.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pong 1972 is correct. So, that makes it 35 years old. My dad had one and when I was little, we played it. 1972 would have been ancient in my 5 year old mind.

I would put something about gaming in the name of the show. You will want people interested in gaming to know to tune in.

I like the idea of doing reviews of random classic games, but what about doing occasional features on various significant things/events in the history of gaming? It'd be fun to hear a profile of, say, the Odyssey˛ system, or the advent of graphics accelerator cards, or whathaveyou.

Do you think that would be appropriate, though?
I mean, I could listen to Wil Wheaton wax poetic about classic video games all day long, but that's because he lived in those moments as a kid. I can relate to his experience on a certain level, because we were all kids once, but could I ever truely understand the time and be able to also articulate myself so eloquently?
Sadly. No. It's merely because I wasn't 11 in 1983. I was 11 in 1991, so I could talk about my video game experience from that time. I think it would come across as somewhat pretentious for Blayne to talk about video games and systems that were created before his time in any way other than technical and historical terms, which rarely make for good radio.
(For Wil Wheaton goodness, I'd highly recommend listening to his Keynote from PAX 2007. I'd link to it, but my employer recently decided to block Penny Arcade.)

I guess it would depend on Blayne, really. Even though he wasn't alive to witness some of the events he'd be doing segements on, if he was interested in the subject and passionate about it, I think the segements would work (in much the same way that a person needn't have lived through a period of history to be able to teach about it effectively). If Blayne doesn't care about that stuff then the segement wouldn't work, but by the same token if he doesn't care about it I can't imagine he'll act on the suggestion.

There's alot of older games that I wanna play with and compare to the newer games and see how they compare, as as far as I see it there ar eprecious few games that have enough content and fun gameplay to balance out the absurd amount of effort spent on making pretty eye candy. So being on the career path to being a game developer its a good idea to go back to ones roots see what made and broke those older games and apply there lessons on new games.

That is pretty cool. Now you need to think of a cool DJ name for yourself. Like Blayne the Brain, or Madley Bradley, or something like that.
