Has anybody else read this book by Cormac McCarthy?

I picked it up for 2 reasons. I enjoyed the other two books of his I read (Suttree and The Road) and am enjoying this one. But something is bothering me about it. Based on descriptions of events and ages of characters the book has to take place in 1980 give or take a year.

In one scene a character is fumbling in his pocket for his ringing mobile telephone.

This is where I am troubled. Maybe I am way off base but I am pretty sure that mobile telephones were a rarity in 1980 and even if the character was one of the few civilians with one, it certainly couldn't fit in his pocket. I am right about this aren't I?

Something like this might be a bit large for ones pocket.

It's not set in 1980. It's set in the West. /cryptic

_Great_ book, by the way. McCarthy's best since Blood Meridian, I think.

The discussion about the age of the coin in the convenience store sets the film in 1980.

Combine that with the age of Moss (36) and his participation in the vietnam war and that backs up the 1980 timeframe.

But yes, it is a great book. 37 pages left for me.
