Okay, to start off... Hi! I've been lurking on the site for a long time but this is my first time posting. I've been pretty intimidated by posting with such well spoken, intelligent people. I try to be a philosopher and end up sounding really smart, or really really dumb. Therefore, for me at least philosopy is a fickle past time. Hence the username.
Anyway, I saw this recently and was thinking that you all should see it too. We get to influence, in a democratic fashion, what will happen to the home run ball that Barry Bonds hit to break Hank Aaron's record. You can choose to
1: Send it to the hall of fame
2. Brand in with an asterisk, then send it to the hall of fame.

Oy, don't we have bigger issues relating to democracy in our country than this?
If this is spam, it's wonderfully crafted. Generally it's just a form letter of sorts, whereas this one seems to have at least read landybraine's starter post first and both panders and flatters at the same time.
If it's not spam...then welcome! An interesting first topic choice for your starter post, especially for one who has lurked for so long. I wonder though, do we send Barry's steroid vials into space with the ball, or do we just let the aliens assume he hit those home runs all by himself?

Marc Eckō has always been an interesting activist.
I am really happy that he gets to do this. Just in case it wasn't clear, this isn't postulative: Eckō actually owns the ball and whatever we vote is most likely exactly what will happen to the ball. The guy who bought the career tying ball has set up a similar vote process.
I voted to brand the ball.

Perhaps baseball is not one of the most discussed topics for me at least. But some of my earliest memories are going to Padres games in San Diego. So I thought I'd start off with something important to me.

I just took my six year old, Sean, to his first major league baseball game tonight. Tigers against Kansas City. (Tigers won!!) And "his Tiger, Sean Casey, hit a home run. You should have seen his face. He was in awe. At the end, he asked if he could be a baseball player one day. I said "Yep!" I also found out that on Sundays, the kids get to run the bases. He's so geeked.
Philosofickle, I can see why those are good memories. I hope to have many more with him!
Keep posting. I'm finding it to be easier and easier with practice.

I was sad to see Jurrjens pulled so early in the game, but it did indeed look like he was really having some trouble settling down. Sucks to see him do that after he's had such an explosive start with the club. But in the comments after the game Leyland had only good things to say about him and his future prospects with the team.
Casey and Inge both had amazing clutch hits, which is especially impressive for Inge when you consider the slump he was in in late July and all of August. September has really been his month. It'll be a real race to see if the Tigers can make the post-season, though the situation looks beyond bleak after being swept by Cleveland. We need to hope Toronto can deal a big blow to NY, and that we don't mess up against Minnesota or KC.
In other news, Barry Bonds won't be playing for the Giants next year.

My only issue with the Tigers is that they're the team that beat the Padres in the World Series in 1984. Other than that I have no problem with them.

We're back to being 5.5 games back (Yankees won today), with only six games left in the season. We'd have to sweep Minnesota and Chicago, and beat the Royals tomorrow. And the Yankees would have to lose every game from now until the end of the season. Their schedule is a bit rougher than ours, but I'd call it a near impossibility at this point.

So... this is apparently not spam, but shouldn't there be a really simple forum rule where new members can't post links for, say, a week? They could always type out the site they want to share, but this would seriously hamper spammers right? Anyone?
