I did a decent search of the forums and while I found a couple threads devoted to Ender's Game the movie, I didn't see anything recent nor anything that covers this particular topic.

I looked on IMDB and saw that Wolfgang Petersen is now linked to the directors spot and it has been slated for 2008. I wished that Sam Mendes would take a step into Sci-Fi but it doesn't look like it's in the cards. Petersen isn't the worst choice but his movies come off pretty blande after you strip off the flash of effects or glamous setting (see Outbreak, Posideon, Troy, and The Perfect Storm). That being the case I worry how his vision will change the story and characters. I mean, he's going to be working with children who are supposed to have some serious emotional depth and space station that IMO was meant to be subdued in its nature. I just get the feeling that the movie will be about killing buggers and not about Ender or humanity, which will give it a 4 week run in the theaters and an 2am slot on TNT 3 years later.

Now, in the IMDB Plot Summary it lists this:

"As a mix from the best selling Orson Scott Card books, Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow, the story follows the tough futuristic lives of two children, Ender Wiggin and his protoge, Bean. Ender Wiggin is a Third, born through special permission from the government, and is placed as the only savior of Earth from alien Formics, commonly known as "Buggers". Bean is an orphan from the streets of Rotterdam, where everyone must have an ally to survive. They meet in the celestial Battle School, to be taught, and trained to save the Earth. Written by Sommers"

Can anyone confirm that Ender's Game is going to be a mix of both books?

There aren't any recent threads on the topic mostly because this news is kinda old.

In related news, I didn't think the directing of Troy was what made the movie dreadful. I'm more inclined to blame the writers of the worst script ever.

Apparently, the director's cut of Troy is actually pretty good.

I may be tempted.

I have a problem with 90% of the director's cut dvds that get put out because they aren't the actual director's cut. It's not as bad now as it used to be but they used to release new editions as "director's cut" when it actually wasnt' recut by the original director. You certainly count out a true director's cut for resurrecting a bad movie though. I'm sure everyone is familiar with Bladerunner. Speaking of Bladerunner, I wouldn't mind seeing Ridley Scott take up the story of Ender.

-edit-

Btw, ty for your patience with the new guy on the block who hasn't had the opportunity yet to wax philosophical about the fate of EG. [Wink]

No, I'm not familiar with it. I can't stand Wesley Snipes.
