Loved it when OSC reviewed "Firefly" and praised it as the amazing story I knew it was. Kind of validating, since OSC is not known for pandering reviews. It's a special thrill when your friends like what you like, but it's amazing when professionals you respect also go all gushy.

And then he gushed all over "Serenity" and more joy was had. The same feeling of shared discovery, but even more so since he has the audience to share his love with many, many more people and his analysis sounds so much better than my "this is so cool" essays.

And then he went totally fanboy with a video interview in the Browncoat documentary "Done the Impossible."

And he's continuing to spread the love and respect, with a foreward to the upcoming "Serenity Blueprints Reference Pack" (in character, no less) from QMx, and with a long and excellent essay on just why "Firefly" and "Serenity" are great science fiction in the new book, "Serenity Found," edited by Jane Espenson, which also has essays by other writers, critics, Jacob from "Television Without Pity," some of the crew, and Cap'n Mal himself, Nathan Fillion. On sale now!

The obvious next step would be for OSC to write an original Serenity novel, of course. I'll just wait quietly and keep refreshing his Amazon page...

I do enjoy how much OSC loves Firefly. It's an incredibly satisfying show. Serenity was also way fun.

He'd have to be invited to do so, but I'd love to see the results of that.

Well I mean I imagine eventually he'll have wrung every cent of profitability out of the Enderverse, so it's quite possible he'll move on to the Serenity world afterwards.

I look forward to the charming story of an Easter celebration in the Tam household.

I just recently realized that my favorite audiobook reader/performer, happens to be the same audiobook reader/performer that OSC has been gushing about in his reviews. I guess the man has good taste. [Wink]

Of course, his essay in "Serenity Found" mentions tie-in novels as one of the things that helped weaken print science fiction, but I think if anyone could write inside this universe and make it a strong enough novel on its own merits it would be OSC.

Or Peter David. Or Diane Duane. Or Steven Brust. I'm easy.

I love Firefly, but it's over for me.

Frankly I look on "Serenity" the way a lot of people look at the prequel Star Wars movies. There was some good stuff in there, but all in all I almost wish it had stopped with the show.

Even if the show were to be picked up now, I don't think it could ever live up to what we all remember it being.

So....I'm thinking that Mr. Card might see more of this if it were on the other forum. I agree wholeheartedly with Chris that seeing Mr. Card pick up the Firefly universe would be quite interesting.

But that doesn't mean it's OVER! I didn't like Serenity much, but I still rewatch all the Firefly episodes...a lot...

I think there's some truth to that. One of the advantages of being canceled after a mere dozen episodes is that it never got a chance to jump the shark.

Or the "Jayne marries Inara" episode, as such things are called in the alternate reality where Firefly lasted five seasons.

I think "Firefly" was a better than average sci-fi series, but perhaps only breaking into the top slots. That said, I think that the movie (particularly considering the ones made in the last twenty years) was among the best of the genre ever made. It put the Star Wars sequals to shame - and felt like what they should have been.

Maybe I should clarify, when I said over, I mean for me, what we already have is all we are ever going to get, or all I ever want us to get.

And what we already have, I treasure, and I watch over and over. I didn't mean "over" in the sense that I've locked my Firefly DVDs in a drawer somewhere and I never watch them.
