The first starts off with a man hearing voices which he realizes are the ANTS in his garden talking. They are planning to take over the world. Then he hears the SPIDERS talking about stopping the ants.
The second starts with a bunch of "children" racing to a "finishline" and fighting pretty rough to get there. Turns out, they are a bunch of sperm trying to get to the egg.
If you know the names of these, it would be a great help. They are two of my favorites, but I read them a long time ago and can't figure out who they are by.

The first is a Philip K. Dick short story called "Expendable". (While, as I posted in a thread a little while ago, I don't seem to get PKD's novels, I think everyone should read his short stories.)
The second sort of reminds me of a story I think was called Swimmers on the Night Shore. I can't remember who it was by. But it cast more as a tragic, almost Sisyphysian labor, so that's probably not it.
