I want brownie points for sitting through the nasty thing.
I tried not to be too obvious about my dislike . . . Nathan finally leaned over and told me to hush my grumbles.
I'm not sure the movie bore any resemblance to the books Susan Cooper wrote at all. Beyond a name or two. On a wish and a whim. And the actors -- ohhh, wait, that's giving them credit. Yuck. How flat could an actor be?
The kitten was adorable, though. It stole my heart. What a delightful purr. Makes me want to run out and find a new, fuzzy friend.

So what you're saying is, we should only go see it if we want to punish ourselves for doing something very, very bad?

Well, if sitting through it prevented others from doing so when you gave your review, then you can have brownie points.

Yes, just crack open a copy of The Dark is Rising. See? It's -not- called The Seeker! Will is a chubby British farm boy from the 60s and 70s, not a skinny, screechy Nick/Disney-lookin' American doofus.
It was all a bad dream.

I fell in love with Will when I was a gangly girl-child of 10. I so hoped for magic when I turned 11. Beating the snot out of meanest girl in 5th grade came close, but wasn't quite the same . . .
I read the books to my son when he was 8. He was a little more impressed with The Hobbit, I think.
I guess it's time to read 'em again. Just to make sure I really am awake now.

Wait a second, The Dark is Rising movie is called The Seeker in English? Weird. It kept the real title here, at least in the previews I've seen.

It was called The Dark is Rising, but for some reason they changed it a couple of months before release to "The Seeker" with "The Dark is Rising" used only as a subtitle.

It's sort of odd and sad. One of the reasons why Walden Media obtained the option to film The Chronicles of Narnia is because they were horrified with the plans former option holder Paramount had: Modern setting. American kids. Zany humor and "hip" jokes. Janet Jackson as the White Witch. Aslan's sacrifice deleted.
Years later, they obtained the option to another beloved UK fantasy series and hired a director and screenwriter who did almost exactly the same things.

Make sure you offer thanksgiving sacrifices up to the propitious gods of wayward movie-goers . . .
