If I start enough threads, I'll fool myself into being sleepy, I'm sure. *hopeful*

What are YOUR tricks for bringing on the muse of sleep?

*wanders off to do some yoga*

I find that the best way to get to sleep is to think of the homework that I should be doing.

I know I just need to stop procrastinating and start tackling all my dirty laundry. Then I could fall asleep to the gentle rumble of the washing machine which shares a wall with my bedroom.

Alas, how I hate to sort clothes.

Why sort when you can wash 'em all together and wear this year's fashionable brown and grey tones? *evil grin*

Having narcolepsy really helps me fall asleep. I don't recommend it as an insomnia cure, though.

trick to sleeping: convincing myself once and for all that there's nothing all that interesting to read on the internet, and that my gmail and yahoo accounts have not miraculously been updated in the last 30 seconds.

or...drinking less coffee!!

Wearing myself out is the best way for me, so, go for a jog.

I was talking to a friend my mine the other day who said she'll have a shot of some alcoholic beverage and it sends her right off to sleep. On some sleepless nights I've considered that, but that sounds like a slippery slope.

I wake my husband up and make him rub my back, neck, and head.

What I've been doing very recently is just waking up at the same time every morning no matter how much sleep I got. Not sure if that's a good idea in regards to sleep dep, but it's working so far. I am now running on about a week of getting up at 8 and getting sleepy 8-9 hours before then.

I pretend I'm in my Latin class.

Failing that, if I'm in bed and can't get to sleep, I get up and do something until I actually feel tired, then I sleep.

This is precisely what keeps me awake.

I have to write, then read, then lay in the dark doing something like thinking of countries that begin with each letter of the alphabet (Australia, Beirut, Canada...), and I also can't be the slightest bit hungry.

Being tired also helps, so during the day I have to be relatively active.

EDIT: In my normal newsreading morning routine I came across this BBC Article about sleep. Could be interesting and helpful to the people here.

I credit my ability to sleep anywhere any time to a clear conscience. My lovely bride attributes it to my old age.

My wife does the same thing, the answer is if your one of those, "up then up" folks you won't go back to sleep. If you are like me and MOST of the time you can fall back asleep your gold.

On the flip side, I'm sure if I ever needed a snuggle the Mrs would gladly get up and give me one.

Yeah, KPC could sleep through a nuclear holocaust. And if I woke him up because the stove was on fire he'd help me put it out and then lay down and go back to sleep. (Okay, I exaggerate. But not too much.)

Well, I guess we don't have to worry about you all sleeping together.

This is a family forum, you know.

anyone in here ever had trouble with insomnia? some years i go through 'phases' of not being able to sleep. the description in Fight Club was pretty accurate. you are never truly asleep or awake. a zombie. I used to just multitask like crazy at my computer and research all kinds of stuff. it was kind of like having two identities, though nothing like what it is in the movie Fight Club. a 'phase' could last anywhere from a couple weeks to over 6weeks depending on the year. exercising regularly and keeping your mind busy during the day is the best way to combat it. at least for me.
