I know I've been gone awhile, but this used to be a place where I could get a prompt heads-up on really important news.

::shakes head at sad state of forum::

Today's really important news:

Scoop: Futurama's Back With Bender's Big Score!

(from today's Seattle Post-Intelligencer)

quote:
Good news, everyone! Fans of Matt Groening's smart, satirical animated series Futurama are getting their Christmas wish early this year with Bender's Big Score — the first new content from the show since its 2003 cancellation — out today on DVD. Bender's Big Score, which guest-stars Al Gore, Coolio and Sarah Silverman, finds the gang battling a nudist plot to take over Earth. Three more original straight-to-DVD movies are forthcoming, and in 2008, the four releases will be broken up into 16 episodes for Comedy Central. Futurama's executive producer David X. Cohen talked to TVGuide.com about the DVDs' big-name guest stars and why Futurama never quite made it.

Seen it already. I work at Hollywood Video, so we had it for the employees to rent at the end of last week. I liked it, although I found parts of it predictable. I'll probably watch it again at some point.

I'd rent it. But my family has late fees at both movie rental places here. And we're too cheap to pay them off.

I'm watching it right now! It's decent, but I'm a bit underwhelmed so far. It's still early though...

Probably the wittiest cartoon show, IMO. I'm glad that it's back, at least for a little while. I was getting tired of the same episodes over and over.

I really liked the movie.

The humor was a little underwhelming at first, but it grew on me more and more as it got towards the end. One thing that pleases me is that the movie stays true to the wit and heart that made the show my favorite animated comedy. There's so much substance and continuity that puts it above and beyond what The Simpsons and Family Guy have become, in my book.

It reminded me a lot of the Simpsons movie, actually. Lots of good lines, reminded me why I loved the show, and ultimately fell kinda short.

The pacing seemed off, and the jokes weren't as dense-packed as I'm used to. It wasn't anywhere near as good as their best episodes, but it was better than, say, current Simpsons.

The part that bugged me was the insistence on referring or revisiting every single plot point from the show. I can see sticking in all the characters -- and they did -- but after a while the forced insertion of yet another show reference got old. I'm really hoping this is out of their system now so the next Futurama movies won't have to bother.

Love the DVD extra of an entire episode of HypnoToad [Smile]
