I'd been having a really crappy day. I'd been up all night with contractions and sick kids, wasn't feeling too hot myself, couldn't go out, was more than a bit cabin-crazy, and just really wanted to sit in the bathtub and cry. Then, my husband came home and dropped off a box. A Big Box. For ME!

KQ had told me she was sending me a "small gift, something you asked for." Well, this was no small gift, folks! The box was HUGE! I opened it, and the first thing I saw was a three ring binder with a baby shower card attached to the front. I took it out and read it. I can't begin to say how much it means to me, to read all those messages of love, support, and encouragement.

Well, we waited a few days to check out the rest of the box, since Hubby had to work all weekend. Wow, are you guys awesome! We loved the snacks, and the gifts were lovely and much appreciated.

We'd given away almost everything after Boo outgrew it, since we weren't planning on having any more kids. We have a crib that was given to us, Boo's outgrown convertible carseat, and the few outfits and blankets that held special meaning for us, like the quilt dkw sent for Boo when he was a baby and the outfit Dan came home from the hospital in. I'd also picked up a few things we absolutely couldn't do without, like a package of socks and a dozen flat cloth diapers, and I'd made a few wool covers and plan on making a few other things (just haven't had time between sick kids and sick self).

Well, now thanks to Hatrack, we have a few outfits for baby to wear, a couple of nice sleepsacks (one of which is also a swaddler, which is very cool, thanks Liz B!), a sheet for the crib, some burp cloths and bibs, a rubber duckie, a solarveil ring sling (WOW, does KQ love me!), and...

One of the things I'd given away was the swing we'd gotten for Boo, which I'd recommended here and which has been bought by at least a couple of people for themselves and as gifts (it's even been sent overseas). Well, the lady I'd given it to actually gave it back a few months ago, but one of the plastic pieces was broken. I'd put it up, thinking I'd write to the company and see if I could just order a replacement for the broken piece.

Imagine my surprise when, a few days after we'd opened the baby shower box, a package arrived via UPS. It was the SAME SWING! As soon as I saw the box, I absolutely just about died laughing! There was no name on the box, just the UPS label from the company it was ordered from. Hubby kept asking me what was so funny. All I could say was, "I know who sent this! Rivka, I just know it was Rivka!" KQ confirmed a day later that it was, indeed, Rivka who'd sent the swing. [ROFL]

So then I'm trying to figure out what to do now, since I have a broken version of the same swing. Do I go ahead and try to fix it, sell it, donate it, return the new one...what do I do?! I ask Hubby what I should do with it, and guess what he says? "You should open it and use it, since I threw the other one out. It couldn't be fixed without destroying the whole thing!"

Funny how things work out, huh?!

So now, even though we still don't have a few of the things we should pick up for this babe, I'm feeling very blessed. It's wonderful to have friends like you guys, who took time out of your day to wish my family well and send gifts.

Thank you to KQ, who was so thoughtful as to organize this special gift for me. Thank you to every one of you who wrote an email, or even thought of writing. Thank you to the Cards, who provide us all a place to gather and get to know each other here.

And thank you to Al Gore, for inventing the intarnets in the first place. [Evil Laugh]

Feh. I asked them to put my name in there. Why even have a "special requests" box if you're going to ignore it? [Razz]

I'm very glad the swing was what you needed. I had actually forgotten that you were the one to initially recommend it to me! I've given it for a gift several times, because it really is a wonderful swing. kq had said she was pretty sure you needed one. Glad she was right! [Wink]

Enjoy, and I hope the birth is smooth and quick. [Smile]

Hubby brought me home another box Friday evening! It contained three 3-D puzzles (for the kids, I presume), two cute mugs, a box of tea, a long sleeved version of a sleep sack, and a very nice card. Thanks, Shan!

On another note, Hubby has decided he doesn't really like the names we've picked out after all, and my brain just can't seem to come up with anything. Want to play a game? Name the baby? Everyone's welcome!

Here's the criteria: We don't know the gender, so boy and girl names are needed. The first name must be 7 letters long, and the middle name will be either Dennis or Denise, depending on gender. I definitely prefer "normal" first names. Kids so far: Daniel, Jennifer, and Thomas.

I'll start:

Boys:
Michael
Matthew

Girls:
Abigail
Jessica

7 letters makes it tough.

Boys:
Zachary
Anthony
Patrick
William

Girls:
Rebecca/Rebekah
Rachael
Bethany
Kristen

I'm glad the box arrived, Boon! Yep -- the puzzles are for the kids, the herbal tea and mugs are for you and hubby for those infrequent quiet moments, and I hope the sleep sack isn't too warm. [Smile]

Seven letter names . . . hmmmm . . .

Girls:
Shannon *grin*
Hillary

Boys:
Douglas
Gregory

I really like Douglas for a boy, except for the alliteration thing. I am just not a fan of alliteration in names.

Maybe I will steal Douglas, and put it on my list for future kids. Not that having kids with the same name is going to hurt us (Jennifer is still on our list...)

If we had a boy, he was going to be named Jackson, but we had a girl and her name is Jocelyn. We call her Josie or Jojo. Both just happen to be seven letters.

Boy:

Riordan
Kenneth
(Three syllables would go well with Dennis, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a 3 syllable 7 letter name for a boy.)
Dominic (except for the alliteration...I'm with kq on that)

Girl:

Lillian
Katelyn/Caitlyn

The ones I posted he's "not thrilled with" but doesn't hate. I figure if I give him a long enough list maybe he'll either fall in love with something or just give up and let me name the baby. [Wink]

7 letters? Because I'm crazy. My mother's name, my father's name, my maiden name, my sister's name, and all my children's names so far have 19 letters total. 6 for the last and 6 for the middle leaves 7 letter for the first name. See? Told you I'm crazy.

Stephen
or
Allison

Why are you letting your husband have any say. Just tell him the name you like. He is a guy, he will be fine with it in 10 minutes. Unless he is one of those sensitive types... Suck it up dude, you didn't have much to do with this...

no. I think the woman should name her child what she wants. If the guy wants to name something, he should get a dog.

Well, I think that's pretty awful. Especially the way you said it.

Her husband is a wonderful father to his kids. He loves them just as much as her. Shouldn't he get a say in what they're named?

Hmm. That's rough. I had something to do with the creation of the kid and I am raising the kid also. I guess I am just one of those sensitive types.

I named our last daughter and my wife named the dog.

I think it should be equal also. That only seems fair.

I picked our son's first name with my husband's endorsement. He picked the middle name. Of course, he *is* one of those sensitive types. Thank God.

I don't know about equal-- it seems to me I'm always the one coming up with ideas, I obsess over this stuff more than he does-- but at the very least the father should have veto power if he wants it and the power to make suggestions.

Yeah, I agree kq. I think it came off a way that I didn't intend it to. But like you said the father should have veto power, after all it is his child too.

Oh, don't get me wrong-- if he WANTS equal input, that's fine (like brojack naming his last.) But it just seems that MOST men MOST of the time don't think about it as much as MOST women. If there are families where it works the other way, that's fine, too. [Smile]

More girl names (boy names are so much harder for me):

Suzanne/Susanna
Marilyn
Melinda
Claudia

I haven't mentioned Bridget, for obvious reasons...

That package I mentioned is on its way to your place (or should be-- Jeff was supposed to drop it off this morning) and is going Priority Mail. Just in case I don't remember to mention it next time I talk to you-- it should be there in 3 days or so.
