When I saw the trailer for this I was so excited because they kept the ridiculous profile shots with swooshing backdrop while driving in the movie, because it's so ridiculous. It brings to mind the robot chicken episode Gold dust gasoline with its parody of Speed Racer: "It's important that I do not move because if I were to move that would add to the cost, so if I stay perfectly still that will be preferable to moving because animation costs money. Awhhhhh."

Thanks Puffy. The trailers are giving me a tremendous nostalgia for the days when I had paper "buttons" labeled A-G taped to the steering wheel of my Big Wheel...

everyone else may think it sucks, but I suspect I'm going to enjoy the heck out of this movie

They don't work for me. I think I might have broken the internet.

...It's a series of tubes.

I'll wait for the reviews, but I'm sorry to say- despite having several people in it that I like- that the whole thing looks like a huge mess that would give me a screaming headache.

But then, it's not a cartoon that twangs my particlar nostalgia buttons.

Darn... good thing I downloaded them first. They're like 15MB each, so I think e-mailing them is out. I wonder why they pulled them?

Anyhow, in the trailers, there are (were) several Mach 5-like cars, numbered 5, 6, and at the end of the trailer, 4. anyone know the story on that?

I'm not really sure how I want to feel about this movie. It looks kind of over-the-top, cartoon-like, sloppy, and crowded. But there's a chance that I might like it for those very reasons.

It looks like a movie that's destined to have a drinking game based upon it.

I don't know if I'll love or hate this movie. It seems like a difficult cartoon to translate into a movie.

My favorite episode is " The Fastest Car on Earth." The bizarre scene of those guys grave-robbing an engine has stuck with me forever. Plus the whole "going insane because of super-human speeds" deal.

That's the thing, it's a very difficult cartoon to translate into a movie, yet it seems like that's exactly what they've managed to do... at least the trailers look as frenetic and more colorful than the cartoon was. I'd be very surprised if there wans't already a speed racer drinking game based soley on use of the word "speed".

"C'mon, Speed, go, Speed, we need more speed, Speed" isn't much of an exaggeration of the typical dialog.

The cartoon was color-saturated, melodramatic, silly, hyper-kinetic, fun escapist fare.

The trailers certainly seem to invoke at least some of those things. [Smile]

*shrug* The trailers look cool. . . but they usually do. We'll see how the film stands up.

Well, I've seen far too many trailers that didn't look cool for films that turned out to be delightful.

(Remember the first trailer for Finding Nemo? It was so unfunny and blah. Yet I ended up adoring the actual film.)

Every Pixar trailer has actually turned me off of the idea for their movies. Finding Nemo taught me to say "the heck with the trailer, watch the movie."

May is going to be one heck of a month for movies.

Was there actually martial arts action in the series? I donīt remember much in the way of fight scenes. OTOH, I have never watched it in reruns, so the last time I actually saw an episode was well over 20 years ago. Therefore, my memory may be faulty.

How cool! I just read the Wikipedia article. I always wondered what the G on his short was for. Not to mention why Trixie was obviously so wealthy.

Reprints of the manga show that it had martial arts and wrestling action in addition to the racing, but I haven't watched the anime in years. I don't recall.

The TV show definitely had fights in it, and speed and Trixie were both fairly adept at it.
