Steve Gerber, creator of the brilliantly subversive comic "Howard the Duck" -- the comic, not the crappy movie -- has died.

I think the saddest part is, far more people here will recognize the title of the crappy movie than know who Steve Gerber is.

Very sad about this . He wrote wonderful comics -- some of the few ones from the '70s that're still fun to read today. Howard the Duck was great, but also loved Guardians of the Galaxy and Defenders.

I remember when Howard ran for president. I had every issue of the comic, including the black and white ones and the giant sized one with Dr. Strange.
I even had some of the Swamp Thing ones where he originally appeared, though I never did manage to get ahold of Fear #19 (I think), which was his first appearance.
I'll never forget the vampire cow and the kidney lady. Or Winda.
I loved loved loved issue 16 (I think), which was the missed deadline issue. I was in high school at the time.
The movie sucked, of course.
