Percy Jackson and the Olympians. A series I enjoy, yet also frustrates me. Rick Riordan genuinely finds fresh, new ways to integrate classic Greek myth into his stories. Making Percy the son of Poseidon instead of Zeus or Hades was a brilliant choice. Each book manages to be a little more special than the last.
And yet...there still are attempts on Riordan's part to follow what I call the "Potter Paradigm". Percy's best friends being exhibit A and B. I'm hoping the new book is the point where he fully breaks away from trying to imitate certain Rowling characters, because he doesn't need to.
Ah, well. It's a fun enough series.
