Hoopla! Mrs_Maven and I are heading off to the Bilbao BBK-Live festival this evening to see The Police on their reunion tour (they're headlining).

Unfortunately we can't manage the three days of the entire festival, but hey nonny, it's enough.

I'll let you know how it went, and how loud the ringing in my ears is tomorrow...

Wow, headlining you say? Last I heard, The Police were opening for Vampire Weekend. Nice to hear they're finally getting a little bit of recognition.

Enjoy the show, and get me Stewart Copeland's autograph.

I saw them back on the Synchronicity tour before they broke up. They were pretty good. I hope you enjoy it!

Congrats!! I saw them twice on this tour and they put on a great show both times. I wish this wasn't the end though.

A great concert, despite the rain.

They played a selection of their greatest hits, interspersed with lesser known tracks and the audience reaction was fantastic - people jumping up and down, shouting, singing along and waving their hands in the air. Magic stuff.

More interestingly the three memebrs of the band showed themsleves to be excellent showmen as well as musicians. The set itself was sparse, just the Stuart Copelands huge drum riser (complete with chinese gong) and the stage monitor speakers. No keyboards, no backing singers, yet they filled the stage. There was never a dull moment and the whole show was tight, slick but with bags of enthusiasm.

Some cynics say that the whole thing is just a cynical marketing exercise and that band have made a fortune out of this retirement tour, but I say it is worth every penny. The guys looked as if they were having fun and they certainly put their hearts into every track.

All in all a great gig, one to remember! The only down side was that I had to keep wiping the drool of my wife's chin every time Sting turned our way... [Wink]
