A few months ago I played Heroscape. While setting it up, I was thinking “What am I doing? This seems like a game for ages 8 to 16 max.” But the person I was going to play with assured me it was really fun, so I played… and loved it.

The best way for me to describe it to those who have never played is it’s a cross between Risk and Chess.

Does anyone else play this game? And if not, what are some fun board games you’ve ran across?

My favorite games to play include:
Heroscape
Monopoly
Chess
Risk
Carcassonne

Never heard of it. [Smile]

Once upon a time, I was a Trivial Pursuit junkie. Then people stopped playing against me. Now I rarely play board games, unless it's Scrabble with my mother (who kicks my rear).

Settlers of Catan is a standard German game most people like (though I think settlers of zarahemla is actually a better designed version- the board is faster to set up and moves less). Zooloretto is a fun one, a little more accessible for kids, but still enjoyable for adults. Aquaretto is very similar to zooleretto but a bit morecomplicated. We played that last night.

Heroscape's a great introductory level wargame. I've got a couple sets, and Sophie really enjoys just playing with the pieces (since she's not quite sophisticated enough to understand the rules yet).

I'm a HUGE board/card game fan. Here's my (current) top fifteen:

Carcassonne
Settlers of Catan
Tsuro
Pillars of the Earth
Ticket to Ride
Citadels
Guillotine
Puerto Rico
Once Upon A Time
Shadows Over Camelot
Lost Cities
Jyhad/Vampire
Pecking Order
Illuminati
Infernal Contraption
