What do you think of them? I'm seriously eyeing the tC right now...just because I think it's cool-looking. Of course, I don't know if it's got enough leg room for me or gets decent gas milage or won't fall apart on the highway, and I trust personal accounts better than car reviews, to be honest.

I have the xb. Best car I have ever owned. Got the '06, before the "sleeker" model came out. Gets 34mpg, and a lot of leg room.
Get an insurance quote first for the tc, lots of kids drive them which could jack up the insurance price.

I borrowed an older body xB for a weekend and really liked it. Very roomy (almost too roomy for me, to be honest), smooth driving, comfortable. I haven't seen a tC yet so I don't know what to tell you there.

That's probably true...I also really like the cinnamon one, and from what I hear, red cars are more expensive to insure as well. I wonder if I should worry about Florida insurance or Louisiana insurance...LA insurance is a lot higher than FL, and I'm technically still a Florida resident, as far as I know...

I'm seriously considering helping my sister get into am xD. But compared to just the normal Toyota equivalent is there really any significant difference?

I own a tC and love it. Ample leg and head room is definitely an issue for people though... I'd sit in one and find out.

Urban legend. I've sold for about 10 different auto insurance comapanies, and not a single one ever asked what color car someone owned for the rate. One of these days I should start an "ask the ex-insurance agent thread".

I commute an hour to and from work every day. It's got 102342 miles on it, and it's treated me very well. Aside from the usual high-mileage maintenance (a new set of tires, brakes, and oil changes), I've only had to replace a belt and one wheel bearing. It's been extremely reliable, comes with all the extras already installed (there are only two options: side impact air bags and an automatic transmission), is very comfortable, and has lots of cargo room if you drop the rear seats. I get a consistent 30-32 miles to the gallon.

I don't really care about leg room for the people in the back seat...
How tall are you? I'm only worried about this as an issue because I've known people who are about 6'2" and couldn't fit comfortably into the driver's seat of some sports cars.

A friend of mine has an 08 tC, and it's surprisingly roomy inside. I'll ask her about mileage the next time I see her.

The backseat legroom is actually fantastic, it's the driver's seat that seems to cause problems. I'm 5'4 and its a nice fit, but whenever anyone tall attempts to drive it they tend to complain.

A style I hate, btw. I think those are some of the ugliest cars ever made.

The scoop on Scion: They're all Toyotas people.
The tC: Handling similar to a Celica with the 2.4L 4 cylinder Camry engine. The xA(which has be discontinued for the xD): A redesigned Toyota Echo(same engine) The xB: The box one, also with the Echo powertrain. The xD: replaced the xA.
You're just buying a Toyota with a different body. That said, Toyota makes an outstanding vehicle. The tC does have a larger than average 4 cylinder in it for its size, so your mileage will greatly depend on your driving habits. The variable valve timing will help with that though.
It also has low profile tires, which are expensive to replace. Solid car though, I would drive one if it wasn't such a "girl's car".
I used to work at a Toyota Dealership as a tech, and I've never seen anything abnormally go wrong with them.

I learned the hard way a couple weeks ago that with those low profile tires you apparently really have to watch out for big potholes, unless you enjoy replacing bent wheels.
Only money I've had to spend on my '05 so far, and not the fault of the car.

I can't say I'm too fond of the xB's boxed look but the xD is fantastic and the tC is just an average looking car.

Don't get me wrong Jeni, I'm not saying that IS the fault of the car, that's just a part of the deal when you buy one. I now work on Acura cars, where cars without lo-pro tires are rare.
I like Scion products, I'm actually looking to get an 1st generation xB soon. Lots of room, iPod connection, what more do you need?

6'. It's not like I'm looking out of the car through the sunroof or anything, but the top of my head definitely sticks out, and the sales guy said the seat didn't go any lower.
I must be having a quarter-life crisis...I really want a sporty coupe. I'm sure some car manufacturer somewhere has cool-looking coupes with more head room.
