I've just returned from a three (sorta four) week trip with no real access to media. I'm catching up with the news, but surprisingly, it seems like nothing of real importance has occurred. In no particular order of importance, it seems like a rather starting BSG mid-season finale has aired, Barack Obama is finally the presidential nominee, and another stock market slump.

Anyways, I would appreciate it if people could search their brains for events of interest, globally and in Canada, that have occurred in the last few weeks which may have slipped off of the recent headlines (or not made it to hatrack).

Robert Mugabe stole another election in Zimbabwe, and international figure are calling for his ouster. I doubt anything will happen, but pressure is mounting.

The supreme court made two pretty big decisions lately, one to give habeus corpus rights to detainees at Guantanamo and the other striking down the DC gun ban law, more or less asserting an individual right to own guns, but not without limits.

Specific to Canada? Nothing really comes to mind. Unless you care about hockey trades.

Hmmm, seems like a fairly good time to take a break then. I'll check out the two supreme court decisions, thats a good tip.

For my part, after a day of looking, the new releases for Firefox and Eclipse (and to a lesser extent, NetBeans) were the only unexpected finds.

Oh, and it seems that the Stargate Continuum and the first episode of Atlantis are making the rounds, somewhat illegitimately.

I'm not surprised Continuum is already available illegally, but I'm a little surprised that the first episode of Atlantis out. I didn't think Sky had aired it yet, which is how they usually sneak out ahead of the American viewing.

I don't download illegally anymore, and rarely stream any more either. I'll just wait for it to air next week, and I'll probably buy or Netflix Continuum when it comes out. It should be good.
