quote:In the television show Quantum Leap, the Ray Charles version of the song is used in several episodes, since it was the song which played at the wedding of the supporting character Al Calavicci. The usage license was limited, and when the series was released on DVD in the USA, the producers decided they could not afford to renew the rights, so the song was replaced with generic instrumental music. Since the song was used in several emotional scenes, some fans were disappointed with this decision.
Did they really replace the song in the final scene in the series finale with generic instrumental music??? I am a completely unabashed Quantum Leap fan and that song was so emotionally powerful there, I can't imagine anything else in its place.
Tell me it's not true.

I have just started seeing this show in syndacation (at least once they have had Georgia in there) and I am impressed with it.

Dunno about that, but I have seen the DVDs, and I am aware of the controversy over the substitutions. IIRC, they kept Georgia for just one of the places it was originally -- and it's one of several pieces that didn't make it to the DVDs because of the expense of the rights.

Anyone with a Netflix account can stream Quantum Leap free, so it shouldn't be too hard to confirm.
Anyone know which episodes it's in? Maybe I'll check it out myself. I always did like that show when it was on the air. The Evil Leaper episodes were my favorite.

well, like i said, its definitely at the end of the series finale.
it would also be in the episode that that last scene references, which is the episode where Sam has the opportunity to help Al by telling Beth he's alive, but doesn't because it's not what purpose of his leap is for. I don't remember what that episode involves or what season it was in though.
Those probably aren't the only two, but they're the only ones I know for sure.
