I know that there are quite a few Cthulhu fans out there (I have never read the Lovecraft story myself), but I can't imagine the fans will be happy with any movie involving Tori Spelling. Trailer

I don't think anyone is happy with a movie starring Tori Spelling.

Hm. I think it'll all depend on the ending.

They call the film Cthulhu, but it's (loosely) based on The Shadow Over Innsmouth not The Call of Cthulhu, and it's been given a new meaning which just doesn't fit either old Lovecraft story.

How do you find these stories? I have heard of them, but never seen them in print anywhere. Are there any anthologies or collections, or are they spread around like some underground work of art?

Lovecraft's stuff would be so easy to make into a great film, faithful to the feel of the original, all it would need is good directorship and funding. Which for some reason has never happened.

Let's get Guillermo del Toro to make Shadow Over Innsmouth and maybe Peter Jackson to make Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath.

Any decent bookstore with a sci-fi/horror section will have at least one Lovecraft collection for sale.

Doing a search on Amazon and Barnes and Noble's website brings up the latest compilations. Most of them seem to be in print.

My own favorite Mythos story is Bloch's "Notebook Found in an Abandoned House". [Cool]

Skip it and rent Dagon instead. Also based on Shadow Over Innsmouth, albeit loosely, but directed by Stuart Gordon.

You don't need a big name director or big budget. There is a truly excellent movie if the Call of Cthulhu, made by the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society. That said, del Toro wants to make At the Mountains of Madness. That Lovecraft story is probably the one most suited to be adapted to a big production movie.

Wow... put The Hobbit 2 on hold for Mountains of Madness, please.

I think the story I would most love to see in film is... Nyarlathotep.

Check the Call of Cthulu by these guys - filmed in Mythoscope. It's a gem and shows what can be done on a small budget. Support them! I personally have a Miskatonic University T-Shirt, and have a warded myself an MBA fromthe same insititution. I have the certificate on my office wall, and so far no one's queried it... [Wink]

I saw this the other day! I was confused by the silent-film set up of it all, but in the end it worked really, really well.
