It's been years since I read the book. The movie looks funny and interesting in its own right, but I don't remember the feeling i'm getting from the trailer being the feeling I got from the book.
We'll see. Either way i'm pretty excited to see another movie made from one of his books.
Invisible Monsters was my favorite. I wonder if we'll ever get a movie of that one.

I haven't read it. Ericka's very excited about it, though, and we have the book, so I may pick it up before the movie comes out.

Choke is actually my favorite of Palahniuk's book. I've read it a few times now, and this looks to me like an abysmally inaccurate adaptation; it looks like a "let's-find-the-humanity-at-the-center-of-this-story" adaptation -- which is the last thing this novel needed.
It looks overlit, overwritten, amateurish, and woefully miscast.
I will be watching this one through the spaces inbetween my fingers.

exactly, all of Palahniuk's books have a much darker feel. Darker isn't even necessarily the right word. I think Fight Club really got the essence of that feeling down. And even in that one, Ed Norton's character was much more "along for the ride" than the more active role his character played in the novel.
This adaptation looks too shiny.

Miscast? Really? I think Sam Rockwell was born to play a Palahniuk character. I'm really excited to see him as Victor.
I took a class in college on Palahniuk (aww, the joys of liberal arts education) and remember really loving how "Choke" ended. So that will probably have the biggest impact on my final opinion, but I'm optimistic.
I think the "Fight Club" movie did a really good job of depicting the violence, the confusion, and the dark grit of the plot.
"Choke" is alittle more absurd. From what I can see, it seems like it'll do a good job of balancing the humor with Victor's darker inner thoughts.
I mean, I even love the music they've chosen for the trailer.

btw, has anyone read Rant? I was disappointed with Haunted. And haven't read Snuff, but a friend of mine raved about Rant. It seems like our tastes on the Palahniuk spectrum are similar, so I'm inclined to believe her.

Yes, miscast. I didn't imagine these guys to be in their mid-thirties. Sam Rockwell is a favorite of mine, but I think he's wrong for this role. He comes across as too ironic, self-aware, and light-hearted in the trailer. And the roommate, holy cow, the less said the better about that particular piece of casting.
I loved the ending of the book as well. But from the trailer, I don't see the slightest hint that they're going to even try to DO the things the book did. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they do. It looks as if they read the book and circled all the funny and hip parts and made a movie out of it.
'A Scanner Darkly 2' this looks like to me.
Another film where the filmmaker doesn't seem to have understood the book, its themes, or the people in it.
But. Of course I haven't seen it. And trailers can be decieving. I will give it a chance. I will.

Please tell me they will leave out the bead scene. I am getting to dislike this guy's books just because they are just too icky and nilistic for me. It's not my cup of tea.

Yeah, the trailer seems too light hearted and funny to me. When I laugh at Palahnuik's books there's usually a large fraction of uneasiness and/or queasiness. This seems too fun. But then, the trailers for Fight Club made it look like a mindless action movie. So we'll see.
I believe all of P's novels prior to Haunted (maybe) are in the process of becoming movies, except for Diary, which wouldn't translate into movie well at all. Invisible Monsters was the first I read too, and is still my favorite.

I am actually reading Choke right now. And I'm really enjoying it. I think the movie looks pretty good. And I think Sam Rockwell could be perfect for this role after watching him play Chuck Barris in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.
Some friends of mine and I are planning to go see the movie when it comes out. We're basically the Chuck Palahniuk club at my school.
