I recently graduated with a degree in marketing, and have been contacted by at least a few staffing companies. So far so good. Some of them offer me job opportunities with their clients, but they all offer me jobs with their staffing companies. What's the deal with that? Is there a big job turn-around in the staffing business? Should I just ignore these offers?
I would really like to get into brand promotion or interactive/internet marketing, SEO, but it seems impossible to find any entry level jobs in those fields. Since every staffing company has offered me a job I'm scared that they are just pyramid schemes. Does anyone have any experience with them that could help me out?

My mom and KPC both get regular offers from staffing companies-- but not with staffing companies, with client companies. So I don't know about your particular companies, but at least the ones that call/send stuff to them seem pretty legit. (Of course, they just get ignored anyway.)

Just a WAG but I bet if you worked at a staffing company you would end up seeing jobs you are qualified for offering better compensation than what the staffing company does. High turn over in such a position seems like an inevitable result.

I've never been offered a job directly wtih any staffing company I've used to find employment (3 total), but I don't have a marketing degree. Also, I have always gone to the agency rather than having them come to me. I do know they have to market their own services, so it doesn't seem too surprising that sometimes they would want to hire a marketing graduate. *shrug*
It does seem odd that they are all hiring at once. Maybe they consider you an especially good catch. Or, like you appear to suspect, maybe they aren't legitimate job offers, especially if they are coming to you from a resume posted online, or some other public record of who you are and how to contact you. Job spam isn't something I've dealt with, but I'm sure it exists.
How are these companies finding you, and can you find anything about them? (Better business bureau, etc.)

I have gotten jobs through Randstad a few times and have been pleased with each experience for the most part. I have never been approached to work FOR them though. I don't think there is anything fishy about that, they probably just see you as being a good fit working in their office(s). I am not sure but I would think they have policies in place keeping you from jumping ship to one of their clients. Like I said, not sure though.
okay, enough rambling. Time to go home.

Are staffing companies your main source for job leads, or are you applying to your own leads as well?

I would look into each company on a case by case basis, and then decide.
I have been offered jobs from them in the past, and that area is experiencing a huge amount of growth....or at least it was a year or two ago. With the economy the way it is now more and more companies are changing their hiring processes, and I am not sure if that helps or hurts staffing companies.
It may help them, as companies are trying to sift though a lot of candidates to find the right one for them.

ah, im applying to my own leads as well. or applied i should say. i only had a few and 3 of them turned out to be shams. thy tell you its marketing work, then you find out its nothing but door to door business sales.

hmm. i will have to look into it. i was just skeptical that a website that anyone can get to lets you do stuff like that.
