Most unbelievable moment to me in the show so far:

Ana Lucia goes to Sawyer in the jungle, demanding his gun. He refuses. Physical struggle and then sex ensue.

And then, some unspecified time later, back on the beach, Sawyer is surprised to learn that his gun is missing? Hello? Like even if he hadn't clued in that Ana's sudden passion was a distraction tactic, he wouldn't have looked for the gun first thing afterwards?

Because, obviously, Sawyer has been so successful as a con man because he's stupid and gullible and can't read people. It wouldn't occur to the guy who's spent years using sex as a tool to con women that a woman might use sex as a tool to get something she wants from him. The master manipulator wouldn't be on guard for manipulation by others.

Puh-leeze. The show can get away with a lot of sloppy writing because there's so much suspension of disbelief involved in the whole "no one knows what's going on" scenario, but that one made me roll my eyes more than most. (Although I did get a chuckle out of the "Guess this takes cuddling off the table" line.)

I didn't want to resurrect an old thread that had gone way beyond this point in the discussion already, so sorry for the new thread on an old topic. I'm towards the end of watching the Season 2 DVDs and totally hooked and addicted, despite my eye-rolling moment described above!

Yeah, that one was a stretch, but I forgave them because I think the show is so good overall.

For me, the most unbelievable moment was when Claire's baby was sick and she went off looking for medicine. I'm sorry, but I breast fed a 1-month-old and you just can't leave them for any length of time, especially when they're sick and *especially* when there is no other food source.

Yeah, I rolled my eyes at that one, but wasn't that in season three? You might want to add a spoiler warning since it doesn't sound like Uprooted has watched that far yet. Not that it was a particularly spoilery post, but some people are sensitive about such things.

Nope, that was Season 2-- an episode or two before the one I described, actually. I'd probably have noticed that one too, had I ever had children myself!

But I am spoiler sensitive, which is why I didn't resurrect an old thread, so thanks! [Wink] I actually have been following an old one that goes for about 23 pages, but I've only read as far as I've watched.

As I haven't seen season 3 yet, either, it DEFINITELY can't be there! [Smile]

But yeah, I'm sure I noticed mostly because I have a child -- a young one at that (1_1/2) and even breast fed him. I probably wouldn't have noticed 2 years ago.

I just noticed that on the ABC web site they've got the first 4 episodes of season 3 available for viewing. I guess they're re-airing them over the summer. I'm going to start watching tonight and get caught up so I can watch season 4 live!!

Oops, my bad. I think I was conflating that scene with something else that happens. [Blushing]

My view of it was this: it's been some time since Sawyer's gotten any, and he strikes me as the type that's used to finding and taking it when he wants it, and everyone's lost and confused, and no one's sure if they'll ever get off the island.

If a hot woman suddenly decided to jump me in the aftermath of that, regardless of a history of using sex as a tool, I might not be the most clear thinking fellow, either.

well, I'm resurrecting this because I'm only now getting around to watching Season 2. There are season 1 and 2 spoilers in this post.

It's probably because I've re-watched Season 1 straight through and now Season 2 in the space of a couple of weeks, but I'm going crazy noticing the things that happen OVER and OVER:

1. About once an episode someone can defuse a situation by speaking, but is silenced by another character who just doesn't have the patience to hear it, and is then completely mute until somebody gets punched, knocked out, killed, or kidnapped. (Jack is the worst offender at not being willing to actually listen to anybody.)

2. People stupidly point guns at other people who they are actually allied with because they don't have the patience to actually explain what is going on or what they need.

3. Pairs of people have joyous reconciliations followed by unreasoned fighting followed by joyous reconciliations followed by (etc).

4. This one happens a LOT: People start chasing after some real or imagined thing in the jungle and trip and fall flat on their face. Then they happen to discover something where they fell. (And it's not whatever they tripped on.)

5. Characters field of view ends at about 10 feet high. (Think how you can miss a brightly colored parachute 20 feet over your head stuck in a tree that is in a clearing.)

6. People get knocked unconscious on the first try. There are so many reasons this is wrong.
a) Why would everyone know just where to hit to knock somebody unconscious but not kill them?
b) Even if you know how, you can't reliably knock people unconscious without killing them.
c) even if you know how your aim is likely to be off and you won't get it on the first try and the person will struggle, run, or fight back.
d) people get knocked out so often they really ought to be developing signs of permanent brain damage

7. Crash survivors can easily sneak up on each other unseen and unheard but are usually (but not always) easily outfoxed by the "Others" and Rousseau.

Aside from that, I'm getting to the point where I neither identify with nor even LIKE any of the characters, with the possible exception of Hurley. They're nearly all obstinate, aggressive, vindictive, and impatient to an absurd degree. (I see why some would theorize the island is some sort of purgatory.)

Please tell me it gets better. Either the characters/writing, or at least there's enough paranormal mumbo jumbo to keep it interesting despite the Gilliganesque repetition and soap opera personalities.

It gets better. and some of your points (particularly 7.) I think actually have a sort of explaation.

That is, it isn't ever explained, but as you watch more of the show, I think you can understand why.

It does get better (Season 4 was particularly good) but I liked the characters and writing from the beginning. Could I actually identify with anyone? Well, not really, but that's not the point. The point is they're fun people to watch.

I do wish they established a few "token normal" people on the island, just to clarify that the plane did, in fact, have a normal distribution of types of people on it. But I'm content to assume the normal characters are there, just "backstage" being quietly boring.

SPOILERS (Can't remember when this is revealed)

They're the closest the show has. I guess being terminally ill isn't exactly unheard of.

The only time I remember being actually pissed at the show was when Claire turned out to be connected to everything too. She was fairly "token normal" as well for a while, and while I guess it's not unreasonable for someone with a secret connection to someone else to be on the same flight, it was a bit too much coincidence for me to deal with at the time.

That's t.v. in general. My brother and I are always laughing at that. Television would have us believe that a blow to the head is more reliable than anesthetics. One solid hit and the target is instantly unconscious for just the right amount of time, then wakes up with a groan, rubs their head for 2 seconds and is perfectly fine (Not even a lump!). In some series this happens to the same character(s) several times a season and they suffer no long term effects.

Hello, old thread. Anyone know when season 5 begins? I got caught up through Season 3 and actually watched all of Season 4 when it aired this year (or on a webcast later). I liked it better on DVD when I didn't have to wait a week or more for the next episode, or deal with commercial interruptions.

I believe Season 5 doesn't start until beginning of next year.
