When I came home from Braintree with food and hay for him he was hiding in the closet and wouldn't eat, not even stuff like apples.
So I begged a neighbour to drive me to the vet. They gave him medicine, some fluids and stuff like that.
I took him home, tried to get him to eat a bit of hay, but he didn't want any so I let him stay in his litter box and went to help out with the halloween party.
I came back to c heck on him, he still didn't want to eat, so I left again after begging him to eat some hay.
When I came back he still didn't want any and started running around the room peeing on the floor, which is not normal for him at all.
He was all bloated too. I tried calling the vet office, but the vet was gone for the day and while I was calling the emergency place he whimped a few times and just died before I could contact the vet.

Later I found a bag of pretzels in an area I tried to keep him barracaded out of. All were gone but one.
he didn't even like pretzels.
I guess it was the GI stasis from that that must have did it. I wish I had did a better job of keeping him out of there. I always tried to hide the chocolate and sweets from him because he'd always try to steal them. I never thought he'd eat pretzels.

I'm kind of surprised that the vet didn't catch what the problem was, but maybe rabbits are harder to diagnose than some animals or something. In any case, I'm sorry that this happened. I know that when a being that I love has died, it helps me to tell stories about them. If you'd like to do that here, I'm sure people would be interested in reading about him. If you don't think that that would help you, though, definitely don't feel like you need to do so.

Synesthesia, my wife and I are going through something similar. Our cat, Maximus, was just diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis, which is a terminal illness. With medication, he might be fine for a few weeks, a few months, or up to a year. We will miss him when he's gone.

Anyway, my condolences! Thoughts and prayers for you!

poor bunny [Cry]

Pretzels do bad things to my tummy too. (Nasty gluten containing beasties. They should be banned before they kill more bunnies)

Good to know. My new bunny loves carbs, he found some crumbs on the floor once and devoured em.

I'm sorry for your loss, syn. bernie's story might save pepper, for whatever thats worth.

I didn't know that pretzels were bad for bunnies. You shouldn't feel bad about what happened (in the sense that you might be blaming yourself). It sounds like you tried very, very hard to protect Bernie, and went to great lengths to help him after he got sick. That's commendable.

I'm sorry he's gone, but take comfort in the memories of him you have, and like Noemon suggested, sharing those memories might make you feel better.

my bunny just died too. My friend gave him to me 'cause he wasn't getting along with her bunnies. I had him fir about a year and a half before I had to give him to another friend 'cause I was going to college. I hot a call from her the other day that he had suddenly died unexplicably. I told the original owner and she blames me and is no longer talking to me.

His name was Rex but I had all sorts of fun nicknames for him when I wasn't just calling him Bun. He'd get mad and stomp his feet if I wasn't paying enough attention to him and he loved his strawberry yogis treats and eating my homework.

I feel really bad that I wasn't there for him and I really miss him.

I do the same thing with pepper. "Mr. bastardo" is pretty common right now, since he's chewing EVERYTHING.

I'm sorry for your lost pet. But I'm sure he had a richer life than many for having an owner who cared about him so much.

This is true. I really miss that rabbit.
I especially miss all the annoying things he'd do.
Like hop over and over into my section I was blocking off from him. He'd hop onto the pillow, get to the other side and I'd chase him.
Then he'd do it again, several times.
I miss his cute little happy dances and how he'd move his head and dance around.
I miss him getting underfoot and trying to stagger around with a bunny trying to trip me on the way to his food bowl.
I definetly miss him blocking the bowl with his big bunny head when I was trying to fill it up with food and how he'd pull the bowl to him with his teeth.
I miss how he'd grunt when he was mad at me when I tried to brush him or cut his nails, and his sweet eyes and whiskers and threatening as a joke to eat him if he didn't stop trying to get into my room the second I closed the door.
We had gotten so close since I tormented him with medicine back in 2006. He'd sometimes just sit next to me and melt into the floor when I petted him.
It's definetly not the same without him
