When I look at all this bickering, complaining, and street violence in California I began to wonder.

OK. My mother-in-law, aunt, and several other PC-challenged people thought that after Obama won the election there would be rioting in the street. After all, said my 75 year old Aunt, "Those people can't even win a baseball game without burning down half the city." I believe that by "those people" she actually meant City Folk, not a racial charge.

Anyway, they were all surprised when the nearest thing to rioting came from the Gay community, and was not aimed at "The Man" but at The Mormon.

I realized that I was a bit surprised at that too.

Sure, when the usual butts of politically incorrect humor collide the comedians have a field day. I guess there is a limit to the phrase, "anything that brings laughter into the world is OK." because some of the jokes I've heard (and yes, that I thought of) would get me kicked off of this forum before I could type in the punchline.

(And have the Gay Mafia and the LDS Ninja's fighting over who got to flay my lifeless corpse)

However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that there are a lot of similarities between these two groups.

For example, if you find a group of young men, dressed nicely and singing in perfect harmony, the odds are great that some will either be gay, or that it will be the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Each group has had to fight hard to get something as simple as their names spoken correctly. Is it Mormon, LDS, Church of LDS, LDS Church? Is it gay, homosexual, poofter? Are lesbian's gay or is gay only a male thing?

Each group's members claim that they became a member not by choice, but by a force beyond their control. LDS members claim it was God calling them to join. Homosexuals claim it was nature/DNA/beyond their control, that made them who they are.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was disowned by most of the rest of the family of Christian churches when they first began. Sometime that included violence. Some still cut you out to this day.

Many homosexuals have been disowned by their families. Sometimes that included violence. Some still cut off their gay children to this day.

Both communities have brought wonderful achievements in the arts, literature, and caring to lives of all those around them.

Both communities strive for non-violence, finding violence and those of their own members who commit violence in their name, to be repugnant.

The Church of Latter Day Saints is one of the fastest growing evangelical groups in the world.

Homosexuals are feared to be one of the fastest growing evangelical groups in the world. (They aren't, but the fear is there.)

Twenty years ago, if a well dressed man from either group knocked on my door and wanted to come inside and talk about me joining them, I would have been worried and upset. Today I would accept their attention as a compliment, though politely decline.

If it wasn't for the whole sinning thing, I think these two groups would be natural friends.

But hey, the sin isn't that big a deal.

So the LDS ideal uniform, the suit and tie, is a bit old fashioned, and completely out of fashion. Surely that is no reason for you gay folks to be anti-LDS is it?

Oh, and it goes both ways, this sinning thing.

Pardon my prudishness, but I have to agree with the Church on this issue....

you homosexuals drink to much coffee.

We didn't throw the first stone.

I would love for gay people and christians of all stripes (not just mormons) to be friends. We both have rights that need protecting and if we could lean on each other that would be wonderful, because when we fight, we both lose.

But you can only turn the other cheek so many times. =(

I need more coffee...

My first thought, oddly, was that perhaps Homosexual was the name of a pequenino.

Maybe Mormons could get a little Queer Eye for the Mormon Guy thing going on where a team of gay guys descend on missionaries and punch up their dress to make them a little more modern. No reason missionaries can't be metrosexual.

Call it an olive branch.

Actually, continuing the quote to include the phrase "... up their dress ..." makes it weird, too, in a different way [Smile] Why would male Mormon missionaries be wearing dresses?
