Is there any downfall to using boiled water as a heating/humidifying source?

Well, the water might run out and then your pan is just heating up. The water vapor will also cool down and then you have a bunch of water in your air. It's not that bad if you live in a desert area, but not as good otherwise. my inlaws keep a kettle on top of their wood burning stove so it humidifies as the stove heats.

I wouldn't do it with a kitchen stove while you are sleeping.
