Does Wake on LAN work if the computer is in standby?

I have XP Pro SP2 installed on 36 lab machines. I have DeepFreeze 6.3 installed. I have set up a console where I can turn off and on DF (and the machines) from a server. Very handy--just set it up.

I am going to be using this in conjunction with a WSUS server--also already set up.

However, the computers go to standby after 45 minutes. I can wake on LAN if they are powered off, but nothing happens if they are on stand by.

I have exhausted my poor Google-fu and only found a thread that says wake on LAN will NOT work from stand by. I found that in a blog that I have no way to evaluate its' trustworthiness.

I also found a Microsoft hotfix, but it does not seem to match my problem as hibernation is turned off and I don't have S4, only S1 and S3 (S3 is the current bios setting).

Before I turn off stand by on 36 machines, can anyone verify if remote wake up should work on a machine in stand by?

Thanks!

Note: I am waiting to get DF fully working and the stand-by resolved so I can test my WSUS server. The WSUS is up and has downloaded all the updates and sees the computers in this lab.

*no one in the district is using this set up at their schools. It does not fall under my current job description, but I thought it would be cool if I got it working and could present it to our Principal.

Tada!

edit: It's possible, but you need to set up the power configuration in the NIC properties in hardware manager.

Thank you Boris!

I am not at work anymore, so I can't test it there. It did work on my home computer.

There are really not that many options to look at in computers when you know where to look, and yet I missed that tab. I looked over the NIC configuration through and through--or so I thought.

Heheh [Big Grin] We all have brain fart moments. You're just lucky that one of yours didn't result in a bank chain going down for 9 hours [Blushing]
